Nigeria’s resident doctors have announced plans to embark on an indefinite nationwide strike starting November 1. The medics accuse the government of failing to address long-standing issues in the health sector. The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) says the Federal Government owes its members over 35 billion Naira (approximately $22 million) in unpaid allowances and has ignored a 19-point demand tabled by the union. NARD President, Dr. Mohammed Suleiman, warned that the strike would be “total and indefinite,” directing members to conduct ward rounds and hand over patients to consultants before the action begins. The association also accused some government officials of “misleading President Bola Tinubu” about the realities in the health sector.
