Greetings, NYD organizers;
My name is Emmanuel Zonche Gaylah, I am a nominee for this year's "Youth In Science Award" of the Change Makers Recognition of NYD-2025.
I am an emerging leader in Liberia’s engineering sector and a dedicated advocate for youth development. I currently serve as an Electrical Engineering Training Officer at the ArcelorMittal Liberia Training Academy, where I play a central role in shaping the next generation of skilled electrical engineers. With over 50 apprentices under my guidance, I am actively contributing to building a competent workforce capable of solving real-world industrial challenges and driving national growth. And for my mentorship, several of my apprentices had hit social media with appraisals for my impact and contributions to the developmental aspect of their career sojourn.
Throughout my professional journey, I have remained committed to technical excellence, service, and community impact. One of my key contributions is the design and construction of a solar-powered power supply system for a radio station (Radio Good News) operated by the International Baptist Mission (IBM) in a rural community ( Kparblee Town, Nimba County). This project brought reliable energy to an area in need, strengthened local communication systems, and showcased the potential of sustainable engineering solutions.
Beyond this, I have contributed immensely to electrical system rehabilitation and restoration across residential, industrial, and organizational environments. My work continues to benefit communities, churches, schools, and institutions such as ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) and the International Baptist Mission, among others. And my professionalism exhibited in my work has earned me the name DOCTOR CURRENT, which is now my common name.
I have also been recognized for my leadership and technical abilities. I previously served as a Supervisor for a team of electrical and instrumentation engineers assigned to the newly constructed concentrator at ArcelorMittal Liberia, where I provided critical assistance, oversight, and support. In addition, I have trained over 20 young people who are now seen as emerging problem solvers within society—something I consider one of my greatest accomplishments.
Today, as I continue to train and mentor future engineers, my mission remains clear: to reach the highest levels of achievement in electrical engineering, to solve critical national problems, and to contribute meaningfully to youth development for the betterment of Liberia’s future.
I am committed to using my skills, knowledge, and passion to drive positive change—one project, one young person, and one community at a time.
Congratulations, Emmanuel, and wish you and all other nominees well in your endeavors as you continue to impact society.
