February 11 is Armed Forces Day in Liberia, commemorating the founding of the Armed Forces of Liberia (AFL) in 1908. The day honors the history, transformation, and service of the military—from its early days as the Liberian Frontier Force to today’s restructured, professional force. It stands as a symbol of patriotism, sacrifice, courage, and loyalty in defending the nation’s sovereignty.
Armed Forces Day also recognizes the role of both men and women who serve in combat, engineering, medical, logistics, and peacekeeping missions. It reminds citizens of their duty to support national unity and peace, while acknowledging the AFL’s responsibility in protecting borders, assisting during disasters, and strengthening Liberia’s stability and security.
