World Mental Health Day 2026 Celebrated in Kakata City, Margibi County

On October 8, 2026, Action Against Hunger Liberia, with funding from the Government of Ireland through the ASPIRE Project and in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and local partners, successfully commemorated World Mental Health Day 2026 in Kakata City, Margibi County. The event brought together Adolescent Peer Support Group (APSG) members, people with lived experiences, caregivers, community leaders, health workers, and community residents in a united effort to promote mental health awareness and psychosocial well-being.

Held under the global theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” and the local theme, “Our Voices, Our Strength: Empowering Adolescents for Mental Well-being,” the celebration featured mental health awareness activities, community sensitization sessions, and exciting football and kickball tournaments aimed at fostering teamwork, inclusion, resilience, and social connectedness among adolescents and community members.

A major highlight of the event was the APSG sports tournament, where the Gorsue APSG emerged as the overall champion, winning both the football and kickball competitions through outstanding teamwork, discipline, and determination. The Kissi Camp APSG secured second place in both the football and kickball matches, contributing to a spirited and memorable tournament that showcased the power of positive youth engagement, peer support, and healthy recreation.

The participation of people with lived experiences added a powerful dimension to the event, reinforcing the importance of inclusion, recovery, and community support in addressing mental health challenges. Their presence and engagement echoed the global call to ensure that lived experiences are heard, valued, and used to drive meaningful change in mental health programming and advocacy.

The celebration served as a reminder that mental health is an essential component of overall well-being and that communities play a critical role in creating supportive environments where adolescents and young people can thrive. Through APSGs and partner-led initiatives, young people are building resilience, strengthening leadership skills, supporting one another, and helping to break the stigma surrounding mental health.

We extend our sincere appreciation to the Margibi County Mental Health Team, Cultivation for Users Hope (CFUH), Community Healthcare Initiative (CHI), Liberia Association for Psychosocial Services (LAPS), community leaders, caregivers, volunteers, people with lived experiences, and all other stakeholders whose dedication and collaboration contributed to the success of the celebration. Your continued support is helping to advance mental health awareness and create lasting positive change for adolescents, families, and communities across Margibi County.

🌍💚 WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2026 CELEBRATED IN ST. PAUL DISTRICT

On October 6, 2026, Action Against Hunger Liberia, through the ASPIRE Project, with funding from the Government of Ireland, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, partners, and community stakeholders, successfully commemorated World Mental Health Day 2026 in the Ricks Communities on October 6, 2026, St. Paul District, Montserrado County.

The celebration brought together members of Adolescent Peer Support Groups (APSGs), people with lived experiences of mental health challenges, caregivers, community leaders, health workers, and residents for a meaningful day of awareness, engagement, recreation, and community solidarity.

🧠 Guided by the global theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” and the local theme, “Our Voices, Our Strength: Empowering Adolescents for Mental Well-being,” the event created an important platform for people with lived experiences to be heard, while encouraging open conversations around mental health and the need for supportive, inclusive communities.

Participants engaged in a community parade, mental health awareness sessions, and friendly sports competitions designed to promote mental well-being, social inclusion, teamwork, resilience, and greater understanding among adolescents and community members.

🏆⚽ A major highlight of the celebration was the APSG Tournament, where the Krukai Community APSG emerged as the overall champion, winning both the football and kickball competitions. The Christianville Community APSG proudly secured second place in both categories.

Beyond the competition, the tournament demonstrated the power of peer support, healthy recreation, inclusion, and community engagement in strengthening adolescent mental health, building confidence, and fostering unity among young people.

💚 The celebration reinforced one important message: Mental health is everyone’s business. By listening to people with lived experiences and empowering adolescents to speak up, seek support, and support one another, communities can help reduce stigma and create lasting positive change.

The World Mental Health Day 2026 celebrations will continue on October 8, 2026, in Kakata, where APSG members, people with lived experiences, community stakeholders, and residents will come together for another day of mental health awareness, engagement, and sports.

Together, we can amplify real voices, strengthen communities, challenge stigma, and create a future where every adolescent feels heard, valued, included, and supported. 💚🧠

Action Against Hunger Joins Launch of the NOURISH Family Farms Project in Liberia

Today, Action Against Hunger, in partnership with Green Cities Inc. (GCI) and Say No to Hunger Multipurpose Farmers’ Cooperative, officially launched the NOURISH Family Farms Project (Nutrition and Organic Uptake for Resilient, Inclusive and Sustainable Harvests for Family Farms) at the Royal Grand Hotel in Monrovia. The launch was officiated by Liberia's Minister of Agriculture and brought together government representatives, development partners, farmers, and private sector stakeholders.

The NOURISH Family Farms Project is supported by ECOWAS through its Agroecological Transition Programme in West Africa, with co-funding from the French Development Agency (AFD) and the European Union (EU). Implemented in Nimba and Montserrado Counties, the project seeks to strengthen agrobiodiversity, improve farm productivity, increase household incomes, and enhance dietary diversity through sustainable agroecological practices by 2028.

Through this innovative consortium, Green Cities Inc., Liberia's pioneering waste segregation and recycling social enterprise, will significantly expand its capacity to transform organic waste into quality biofertilizers and biopesticides.

This circular economy approach will help reduce dependence on chemical inputs, improve soil health, increase climate resilience, and make affordable organic farming solutions accessible to family farmers.

Say No to Hunger Multipurpose Farmers’ Cooperative will play a critical role in farmer mobilization, adoption, production, marketing, and knowledge-sharing, ensuring that farming communities are at the center of the agroecological transition.

As the consortium's nutrition and food security technical lead, Action Against Hunger will support the integration of nutrition-sensitive agriculture, behavior change, and community-based approaches that help farming households not only grow more food sustainably but also consume more diverse and nutritious diets while supporting capacity strengthening local partner agencies.

Together, we are investing in a future where healthy soils, resilient farmers, sustainable livelihoods, and improved nutrition go hand in hand.

Improving Child Health Services in Margibi County!

Action Against Hunger (AAH), through the AFD funded BEHOL Project, is supporting the Ministry of Health (MoH) in the rollout Phase 1 of the Integrated Management of Neonatal and Childhood Illnesses (IMNCI) training for 40 health workers from 22 health facilities across the entire four health districts of Margibi County.

The training is being facilitated by technical staff from the national and county level master trainers from the Family Health Division of the Central Ministry of Health, the Margibi County Health Team, and AAH reflecting a strong partnership to strengthen the quality of healthcare services for newborns and children. Action Against Hunger is providing both financial and technical support to ensure the successful implementation of this important capacity-building initiative.

By strengthening the technical capacity of healthcare providers in the prevention, assessment, classification, and management of common neonatal and childhood illnesses, the IMNCI approach contributes to improved quality of care, reduced preventable morbidity and mortality, and better health outcomes for infants and children across Margibi County.

Together, we are investing in stronger health systems, healthier children, and a brighter future for Liberia.

WORLD MENTAL HEALTH DAY 2026 | ACTION AGAINST HUNGER LIBERIA

Action Against Hunger, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health, LAPS, CFUH, community stakeholders, Mental Health Support Groups (MHSGs), and Adolescent Peer Support Groups (APSGs), will commemorate World Mental Health Day 2026 under the global theme: “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change”

Supporting Breastfeeding, Supporting Families

Action Against Hunger was proud to join the Ministry of Health and partners in celebrating World Breastfeeding Week, reaffirming our shared commitment to improving maternal, infant, and child nutrition. The celebration reached a memorable climax with the establishment of a Nursing Room within the Ministry of Health, providing a safe, comfortable, and dignified space for breastfeeding mothers.

This important milestone reflects our collective dedication to creating breastfeeding-friendly environments and ensuring every child has the best start in life. Together, we continue to champion the health, well-being, and nutrition of mothers and children across Liberia.
