Testing Testing Ginger 🫚 Farming

19/09/2026

Hello 👋 there
We are testing ginger 🫚 farming.
At our venture, Green Basket Agro Enterprise ginger is one of our premium products. However the price of raw ginger has been rocketing due to demand. Imagine a 25kg back sold between 17k to 20k Liberian dollars. Once processed, one can not make significant gain.

When you invest in a young woman, you invest in the future of agriculture. We are excited to welcome home one of our young women mentees Praise A. Luogon from , who has just returned from an intensive Farm Management training at Songhai Centre in Benin.

The Songhai Centre is widely known for its practical, hands-on approach to agricultural training. It is not simply a classroom where participants learn theories about farming. It is a living agricultural system where trainees are exposed to crop production, livestock, processing, agribusiness, farm management, entrepreneurship, and value addition helping farmers understand agriculture as a viable business.

For us at WASUDEV, opportunities like this matter deeply. We want to see more young women move beyond seeing farming only as a means of survival to seeing it as a business, a profession, and a pathway to economic independence. Our mentee returns with new knowledge, practical skills, fresh ideas, and hopefully an even stronger belief that she can build something meaningful from agriculture.

We are grateful to everyone who has thought about WASUDEV and the young women we work with when opportunities for training, mentorship, exposure, and growth arise. Your confidence in our women means a lot.

Recently we heard about a government engagement around non- performing loans.

Why are these loans not performing? This is a significant question to be answered.

We are also hoping that grassroots organizations were included in these conversations.

From our experiences as women farmers and women in Liberia, we believe that financial inclusion must reflect women's realities. Women in rural and underserved communities may not always meet the requirements of formal financial institutions. Plan and design together with them what works.

For us, this is why we are very serious with our VSLAs because, VSLAs provide an accessible mechanism through which women can begin saving, borrowing and managing financial resources. A community based financial mechanism we know and trust.

Today, we welcomed a delegation from China Aid to learn more about the work of and Green Basket Agro Enterprise. Interestingly, they reached out to us just yesterday after seeing and hearing about our work in the Agriculture sector.
During the meeting, we explored potential areas of collaboration, including technical training, Farmers Market engagement, material and technical support, and social exchange.

We are grateful for this connection and excited about what lies ahead. When you do meaningful work, people notice. They gifted us these beautiful baskets. Hopefully during the next cohort, our women and youth will be trained on how to make them.

Farmers Market is more than a market. It is a place to CONNECT!

Can you imagine having customers who don’t just buy your products, but voluntarily become your marketers?

That’s the beauty of the Farmers Market! Customers discover products they love, share their experiences, recommend them to others, and sometimes even give the best adverts themselves!

Listen to sis Korto K Reeves as she talks about the seasoned Bonnie from Angea Agro Hub “Dĩaɓà Natural Spices” proof that a happy customer can become your best salesperson! 🥰🙌🏾

This is what we love about the Farmers Market.
Come experience it. Come support local. Come discover something new.

See you on October 2, 2026

Every market day is more than just buying and selling. It is about connecting farmers to consumers, supporting local businesses, promoting fresh and locally grown food, and building a community that believes in Liberian farmers and Liberian products. 🇱🇷

What started as an idea is becoming a market people anticipate.
