WHO Liberia joined the Minister of Health and the Interim Director of the National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL), along with the U.S. CDC and Africa CDC, in a high-level meeting with H.E. President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease (BVD) preparedness efforts in Liberia.

Discussions focused on briefing the President on the country’s preparedness and readiness status for BVD. Priority preparedness measures include strengthening surveillance systems and Point of Entry (POE) screening, enhancing rapid response readiness, improving laboratory capacity, and intensifying risk communication activities nationwide.

WHO remains committed to supporting the Government of Liberia through close collaboration with national authorities and partners to strengthen preparedness and emergency response systems.

National Health Alert: Liberia remains vigilant following the Ebola outbreak reported in Eastern DRC. There is currently no confirmed case in Liberia. Citizens are encouraged to remain calm, stay informed, and continue preventive health practices

After having consulted the DRC and Uganda where the Ebola disease caused by Bundibugyo virus is known to be currently occurring, I determine that the epidemic constitutes a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC), as defined in the provisions of IHR.

WHO Liberia is pleased to share the WHO Liberia Annual Report 2025.

The report highlights key achievements and progress made throughout 2025 across disease prevention and control, immunization, health systems strengthening, maternal and child health, emergency preparedness and response, and healthier populations programmes in Liberia.

From scaling up the malaria vaccine nationwide to strengthening disease surveillance systems and supporting frontline health workers, the report reflects WHO’s continued commitment to supporting the Government of Liberia and partners in improving health outcomes for all.

World Health Organization Liberia joined the Ministry of Health, Republic of Liberia in commemorating World Health Day 2026. The event featured a march from the J.F.K. Medical Center to Monrovia City Hall and brought together stakeholders, partners, and students from across the health sector.

Held under the theme “World Health Day 2026: Together for Health. Stand with Science,” the commemoration included keynote and special remarks, as well as a panel discussion that addressed topics such as trust in science, the One Health approach, addressing misinformation, community engagement, and collaboration.

WHO Liberia remains committed to supporting national health priorities and advancing health outcomes for all.
