Women’s Voices Global was honored to be invited by the Don Bosco Youth Center Holiday Camp 2026, located in New Matadi, Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia, to facilitate a day of awareness and education on Sexual Harassment and Gender-Based Violence (GBV). The engagement brought together young people in an interactive learning environment aimed at equipping them with the knowledge and confidence to become advocates for safer communities.

The opening session was facilitated by Kindness Z. Kwanwah, Founder of Women’s Voices Global, who delivered a comprehensive presentation on Understanding Gender-Based Violence (GBV). She guided participants through the meaning of GBV, the different forms it takes, its underlying causes, and the alarming realities of gender-based violence in Liberia and around the world. Drawing on practical examples, she emphasized that GBV is not limited to physical violence but also includes sexual, emotional, psychological, and other forms of abuse that rob individuals of their dignity, safety, and fundamental human rights.

In her presentation, Kindness challenged participants to recognize that gender-based violence is driven by harmful social norms, unequal power relations, discrimination, and silence. She stressed that ending GBV requires a collective commitment to respect, equality, accountability, and courage. Young people were encouraged to reject violence in all its forms, speak up against abuse, build healthy and respectful relationships, and use their voices to protect those who are vulnerable.

A key highlight of the session was her call for every participant to become an agent of change within their schools, homes, and communities. She reminded the audience that creating safe spaces is not the responsibility of one institution alone, it is a shared responsibility that begins with each individual choosing respect over abuse and action over silence.

As the Founder of Women’s Voices Global, Kindness reaffirmed the organization’s unwavering commitment to amplifying the voices of women, girls, and children through advocacy, education, and community engagement. She emphasized that conversations on gender-based violence must continue until every person can live free from fear, discrimination, and violence.

Understanding Sexual Harassment: Building Awareness for Prevention

Following the opening session on Gender-Based Violence, participants were led into an engaging and insightful presentation by Veronica S. MulbahVero, Communication Officer of Women’s Voices Global, on Understanding Sexual Harassment.

With clarity and practical examples, Veronica helped participants understand what sexual harassment is, the different forms it can take, and why it is never acceptable in schools, workplaces, homes, or communities. She emphasized that sexual harassment goes beyond physical acts, it can also include unwanted verbal remarks, inappropriate gestures, intimidation, online harassment, and any unwelcome behavior of a sexual nature that makes another person feel unsafe, uncomfortable, or humiliated.

Throughout the interactive session, participants learned the importance of recognizing inappropriate behavior, respecting personal boundaries, and creating environments where every individual feels safe, valued, and respected. Veronica encouraged the young people to reject harmful behaviors, speak up against abuse, support survivors with empathy, and contribute to building a culture of dignity, respect, and accountability.

She further reminded participants that awareness is one of the strongest tools in preventing sexual harassment. By understanding their rights, recognizing unacceptable behavior, and reporting incidents through the appropriate channels, young people become empowered to protect themselves and others while helping to foster safer schools and communities.

Building on our commitment to raising awareness on Sexual Harassment and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV), our second facilitator, William T. Korvah, led an interactive session on “Responding to Gender-Based Violence and Sexual Harassment.”

His session equipped participants with practical knowledge on how to recognize warning signs of abuse, respond safely when faced with harassment, support friends with empathy, identify trusted individuals and institutions for reporting, and become champions for preventing violence within their schools and communities.

A key message throughout the session was that it is never the victim’s fault. Participants were reminded that reporting abuse is an act of courage that protects both survivors and others who may be at risk.

Through engaging discussions and practical activities, young people were empowered to respect personal boundaries, reject bullying and abuse, speak up against violence, and help create safer communities where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.

Today, Women’s Voices Global had the privilege of being invited to the Don Bosco Youth Center Holiday Camp 2026, located in New Matadi, Sinkor, Monrovia, Liberia, to facilitate sessions on Sexual Harassment and Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

Our team was represented by four dedicated facilitators who engaged the young participants on critical issues surrounding sexual harassment and gender-based violence.

One of our facilitators, Madama Roshell Bamba, delivered an insightful presentation on “Building Safe Communities to Prevent Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).” Her interactive and engaging facilitation resonated strongly with the vibrant young people at the camp, who actively participated throughout the session.

At Women’s Voices Global, we recognize that gender-based violence is not a new issue. However, our commitment is to ensure that the conversation never grows silent. We will continue to raise awareness, educate communities, and remind those who may have forgotten, while informing those who are yet to understand the devastating impact of SGBV. Through continuous advocacy, we believe we can inspire lasting change and help build a society where women, girls, children, and all individuals can live free from violence and abuse.

During her session, Madam Bamba emphasized, among other key points, that:

_Young people are powerful agents of change and play a vital role in preventing violence.

_Preventing SGBV begins with challenging harmful behaviors, respecting personal boundaries, promoting gender equality, and speaking out against abuse.

_Everyone has a responsibility to help create safe and inclusive communities where every person is treated with dignity and respect.

_Participants were encouraged to seek support from trusted adults, counselors, community leaders, or relevant organizations whenever they experience or witness abuse.

Together, we can build safer communities where respect, equality, and protection are the foundation of every home, school, and society.
