On Tuesday, April 28, 2026, Madam Tolbert brought together key environmental stakeholders including the Monrovia City Corporation, Environmental Protection Agency, For Beach Liberia, residents and friends of Trench Town Community to conduct a major public awareness campaign focused on beach protection.

This awareness was initiative centered on three major environmental concerns affecting Trench Town shoreline: plastic pollution, illegal sand mining, and the urgent need for the removal of waste and dirt from the beach.
Addressing community members during the exercise, Madam Tolbert stressed that the beach remains one of the community’s most valuable natural assets and must be protected from practices that continue to threaten marine life, public health, and the beauty of the coastline.
She noted that the indiscriminate disposal of plastic waste into the ocean and around beachfront has become a serious environmental hazard, clogging drainage systems, polluting the sea, and endangering aquatic species. She called on residents, especially young people, to adopt proper waste disposal methods and join hands in keeping the beach clean.

Mr Teddy P Taylor from the Environmental Protection Agency used the occasion to educate residents on the harmful long-term effects of sand mining, warning that uncontrolled removal of beach sand weakens the shoreline, increases coastal erosion, and puts nearby homes and infrastructure at risk.

Meanwhile, the Monrovia City Corporation encouraged stronger community participation in sanitation activities and promised continued collaboration with local leaders to improve waste management within vulnerable coastal settlements.

We also joined the awareness drive, emphasizing that beach conservation is not only a government responsibility but a collective duty for every citizen. We urged residents to become ambassadors for cleaner beaches by discouraging littering and reporting harmful environmental activities.

Residents welcomed the initiative and praised Madam Tolbert for bringing institutions and citizens together to address environmental issues directly affecting their daily lives.

FOR BEACH LIBERIA CELEBRATES EARTH DAY 2026 WITH STRONG CALL TO PROTECT LIBERIA’S COASTLINE

For Beach Liberia on April 22, 2026 proudly joined millions around the world in commemorating Earth Day with a vibrant environmental awareness program held at the European Union Annex in Monrovia.

Held under the compelling theme, “Protecting Our Coastline, Preserving Our Future,” the event served as a timely reminder of the urgent need to safeguard Liberia’s fragile coastal ecosystems from the growing threats of beach erosion, plastic pollution, rising sea levels, and the wider impacts of climate change.

The celebration brought together environmental advocates, youth leaders, students, community residents, civil society actors, and development partners all united by one shared mission — building a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Liberia for present and future generations.

Delivering the keynote address as Guest Speaker, Mr. Teddy P. Taylor challenged Liberians to move beyond words and become active defenders of the environment. In a passionate and inspiring speech, he underscored the critical role communities must play in preserving the country’s natural resources.

Mr. Taylor particularly called on young people to take ownership of environmental protection by embracing sustainable habits, promoting environmental awareness in their schools and neighborhoods, reducing pollution, and participating in practical conservation initiatives.

He stressed that Liberia’s coastline is not merely a stretch of land bordering the sea, but a national treasure that supports livelihoods, fisheries, tourism, biodiversity, and the very survival of many coastal communities.

“Protecting our coastline is not only an environmental responsibility; it is a development priority and a survival issue for our future,” Mr. Taylor emphasized — a message that strongly resonated with participants throughout the program.

Speakers at the event also highlighted the alarming rate at which coastal degradation is affecting communities across Liberia, warning that failure to act now could have devastating consequences for homes, businesses, marine life, and economic stability in years to come.

As part of the observance, participants engaged in discussions on climate resilience, environmental education, community-led conservation, and the importance of collective responsibility in keeping beaches and waterways clean.

Through this impactful Earth Day celebration, For Beach Liberia once again reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to environmental advocacy, youth empowerment, and grassroots community engagement in the fight to preserve Liberia’s coastline.

The organization emphasized that meaningful environmental change can only happen when citizens, institutions, and policymakers work together to protect the country’s natural heritage.

As the event came to a close, one message remained clear and powerful: Liberia’s future depends on the actions taken today.

For Beach Liberia remains steadfast in its mission to ensure that Liberia’s coastline is protected for generations to come.

Together, we can protect our coastline and preserve our future.
