The General Manager of Jungle Energy Power (JEP), Mr.Aleyou Keita, along with several members of the company’s staff, on Wednesday joined grieving family members and sympathizers at a memorial ceremony held in honor of the late Clarence and Dennis Davis, the two children who tragically lost their lives in a devastating fire incident reportedly linked to an electrical fault in the Chief Compound Community in Gbarnga, B**g County.

Speaking to journalists shortly after the ceremony, Mr. Keita again expressed deep regret over the heartbreaking incident, describing it as the first major accident of its kind involving JEP since the company began operations in Gbarnga.

“We were all shocked by the untimely death of these two children,” Mr. Keita said, noting that as a family man himself, the tragedy deeply affected him and the entire JEP family.

The JEP boss disclosed that the company’s immediate priority was to stand in solidarity with the bereaved family during their time of grief before engaging owners of the four buildings damaged by the fire.

According to him, JEP remains committed to holding discussions with affected property owners, stressing that the victims are valued customers who remain important to the company.

Mr. Keita further revealed that JEP has already submitted its accident report to the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) and other relevant authorities as part of efforts to determine the exact cause of the incident and pave the way for the restoration of electricity to the Chief Compound Community.

He assured residents of B**g County that once the cause of the fire is fully established, the company will draw lessons from the tragedy to prevent any future recurrence.

The memorial ceremony brought together senior officers of the Liberia National Police B**g County Detachment headed by Commander William Johnson, representatives of the Liberia National Fire Service B**g County Detachment, B**g County Administrative Officer D. D Sam Baryougah Elliott Sr.., clergymen, members of the Christian community, and several well-wishers at the residence of Mr. Elliott, where the tragic incident occurred.

MNG Gold Liberia Clarifies Employment Concerns in Kokoyah District

David Dean’s Town, Kokoyah District – Turkish mining company MNG Gold Liberia has responded to recent public concerns surrounding its employment practices at the David Dean’s Town mining site, assuring residents that the company remains committed to transparency and compliance with agreements governing local employment.

Speaking on behalf of the company, Matthew Gbanken, Public Relations Officer of MNG Gold Liberia, dismissed reports alleging that Turkish nationals are serving as drivers for the company.

“These claims are completely false. All drivers employed by MNG Gold Liberia are Liberians, including operators of heavy-duty vehicles. Under the Jobs Employment Committee agreement and the Memorandum of Understanding, the company is not allowed to hire Turkish nationals as drivers,” Gbanken stated.

He also addressed separate allegations suggesting that state security personnel are being employed as drivers by the company.
“We categorically deny those claims. The security personnel assigned at the site are not employees of MNG Gold Liberia. Their responsibility is to provide official es**rt and transportation services for expatriates traveling to and from the airport,” he explained.

According to Gbanken, the company does not employ state security personnel in the manner being speculated by members of the public.

Meanwhile, MNG Gold Liberia expressed gratitude to the Government of Liberia, particularly the Liberia Immigration Service and the Ministry of Labor, for conducting a recent inspection visit at the mining site.

The company noted that during the visit, government officials inspected all departments, including documentation related to the number of Turkish nationals working at the site and the company’s overall hiring process.

Gbanken further called on residents of affected communities to remain calm, noting that Liberians serving in senior management positions are actively working to address community concerns through ongoing outreach engagements.

“We encourage our affected communities to remain peaceful and assured that Liberians in senior management are doing everything possible to resolve concerns through continuous engagement,” he added.

PRESS STATEMENT FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

April 24, 2026

As a prominent citizen and businessman of District One, I, William F. Kotee Jr.., extend my sincere appreciation to the Government of Liberia for dispatching officers from the Liberia Immigration Service (LIS) and the Ministry of Labor to MNG Gold Liberia’s David Dean’s Town mining site following growing concerns regarding the company’s alleged employment practices.

As we have observed over the past several months, this intervention comes after reports accused the company of hiring Turkish nationals as drivers instead of qualified Liberians, while also assigning security personnel to driving roles.

On April 23, 2026, the Liberia Immigration Service commenced an investigation into the number of Turkish nationals currently working at the site, as LIS records reportedly indicate that only a limited number of Turkish nationals were officially brought into the country by MNG Gold Liberia.

However, sources claim the company may have more than 40 Turkish nationals at the mining site, with some allegedly entering Liberia without completing the proper immigration procedures.

At the same time, officials of the Ministry of Labor are reportedly examining job placements for both Liberian and Turkish workers, including salary structures and overall employment conditions.

In light of this, we are pleased to commend the Government of Liberia, especially the Liberia Immigration Service and the Ministry of Labor, for their timely intervention at MNG Gold Liberia. This action demonstrates that the concerns of affected community members will be addressed by the relevant authorities.

We also wish to thank the people of District One for handling these issues responsibly and urge them to continue engaging in a peaceful and civil manner, as has been observed.

In conclusion, let us all remain calm and respectful, including employees of MNG Gold Liberia and all citizens of B**g County, as we await the findings of these institutions.
Long live District One, and long live the good people of our beloved district.

Signed:
Honorable William F. Kotee Jr.
Chief Executive Officer, Menina Resorts

Kokoyah District Residents Raise Concerns Over Hiring Practices at MNG Gold Liberia

Residents of Kokoyah District in B**g County have raised concerns over the hiring practices of MNG Gold Liberia, alleging that the company is prioritizing foreign nationals over qualified Liberians for certain job roles.

The concerns follow a two-week investigation prompted by reports that a Turkish national was seen operating a maintenance truck at the company’s site. According to findings gathered, the company under the leadership of its Chief Executive Director, Cem Aktay has allegedly been assigning smaller job roles, including driving, maintenance, and cleaning, to Turkish nationals instead of Liberians.

Residents argue that this practice contradicts the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between the company and affected communities in District One, which they say prioritizes employment opportunities for locals.

The situation has sparked frustration among community members, many of whom reportedly gather daily at the company’s premises seeking employment.

Several residents who spoke on condition of anonymity claimed that these jobs were specifically reserved for citizens of the affected communities, as outlined in the MOU.

They are now calling on county authorities and relevant stakeholders to intervene and ensure that the company adheres to the terms of the agreement.

Efforts to obtain an official response from the company were unsuccessful, as its Public Relations Officer, Matthew Gbanken, declined to comment on the allegations.

Rennie Alleges Unauthorized Resumption of Tumata Bridge Project, Threatens Legal Action

Tumata, Suakoko District — Madam Veronica Rennie, a former District Five Representative candidate and Liberian based in the United States, has accused Judge Boima Kondoe of resuming construction of the Tumata bridge without her consent.

Rennie, who initiated the project in 2023, expressed disappointment over what she described as an unexpected move by someone she considers a close family associate.

She stated that she had earlier announced plans to return to Liberia later this year to continue work on the bridge, which she said is already 50 to 60 percent complete.
According to Rennie, construction materials are currently on site, and preparations were underway for the project’s continuation upon her arrival, expected around May.

She stressed that the bridge project was launched in response to repeated appeals from residents seeking improved access between Tumata and surrounding towns and villages in Suakoko District.

The bridge is considered a critical infrastructure project that will enhance connectivity and ease movement for several communities in the area.

Rennie has vowed to take legal action against Judge Kondoe upon her return to Liberia, alleging that he proceeded with the project without consulting her. She has called on him to desist and engage her directly before undertaking any further work.

Meanwhile, efforts to obtain a response from Judge Kondoe were unsuccessful. Attempts to reach him via phone calls and WhatsApp messages did not go through. Reports indicate that the judge is currently in the United States and may have been approached by residents of Tumata and nearby communities to resume the project.

Rennie, a native of Gboduoi, also extended appreciation to community members for their continued support and urged residents to remain patient as the situation unfolds.

Update!!

Madam Veronica Rennie, a former District Five Representative candidate and a Liberian based in the United States, is expected to resume work on a major bridge project she initiated in 2023 in Electoral District Five.

Speaking via telephone from the U.S., Madam Rennie disclosed that the project, which connects several towns in the Suakoko District, will recommence in the coming months upon her return to Liberia later this year.

She explained that the initiative was undertaken in response to appeals from residents seeking improved access between Tumata and neighboring towns and villages.

According to her, materials are already on the ground for the continuation and eventual completion of the bridge, which she noted is currently about 50 percent complete.

She called on residents of Tumata and surrounding communities to remain patient as efforts are being finalized to restart construction.

The Gboduoi native expressed appreciation to community members for their continued support toward the project.

Meanwhile, Madam Rennie raised concerns over reports that some individuals have begun transporting building materials at the project site without her authorization.

She warned that such actions could create unnecessary conflict and urged those involved to desist and consult with her before taking any further steps.
