WAEC Liberia Releases 2025 Exam Results, Introduces New Subjects for 2026

Monrovia, Liberia – August 16, 2025

The West African Examinations Council (WAEC), Liberia National Office, has officially released the provisional results for the 2025 national examinations, marking a significant step forward in the nation’s educational development.

Speaking at a press conference in Congo Town, Head of National Office, Mr. Dale G. Gbotoe, announced the release of results for the following assessments:

West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE)

Liberia Junior High School Certificate Examination (LJHSCE)

Liberia Primary School Certificate Examination (LPSCE)

Liberia National Assessment Test (LNAT)

Mr. Gbotoe noted encouraging improvements in performance, particularly in the LJHSCE, LPSCE, and LNAT.

He highlighted that overall outcomes have shown steady progress since the introduction of national exams in 2018.
For the 2025 WASSCE, 51,719 candidates were registered and examined across 379 centers nationwide.

The performance statistics are as follows:

822 candidates passed at least 5 subjects, including English and Mathematics, with credit.

28,576 passed at least 5 subjects, including English and Mathematics, with any grade.

37,081 passed at least 4 subjects, including English and Mathematics.

42,970 passed at least 3 subjects, including English and Mathematics.

However, results for 1,944 candidates have been withheld due to suspected examination malpractice.

These cases are currently under investigation by the appropriate committee.
Looking ahead to 2026, Mr. Gbotoe announced a significant curriculum expansion.

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education, WAEC will introduce 39 new subjects in the 2026 WASSCE. Candidates will be allowed to select 9 subjects from this broadened list, enabling greater academic flexibility and alignment with career interests.

Additionally, certificates for the 2023 examinations have been printed and will be available for collection beginning December 2025.

Early registration for the 2026 exams opens in September and will continue through December 2025.

Also speaking at the event, the Deputy Minister for Instructions, Hon. Amos Fully, commended WAEC-Liberia for the smooth administration of this year’s examinations. He extended appreciation to the Government of Liberia, under the leadership of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., for its continued support in advancing education.

“We applaud WAEC-Liberia’s dedication to maintaining high standards in education,” said Hon. Fully. “We urge school authorities to take full advantage of the early registration window to ensure timely preparation for the 2026 exams.”

This announcement reaffirms WAEC-Liberia’s commitment to academic excellence and expanding learning opportunities for Liberian students.
