Our School Liberia

Our School Liberia Liberian educational institution offering pre-school, elementary, secondary education and TVET. LREC is a project of The DEAR Foundation in Switzerland.

The Liberia Renaissance Education Complex (LREC) was founded in January 2006 in the village of Duazon, about 20km east of Monrovia, the capital city of Liberia. We strive to be a model school, using progressive teaching methods to deliver a diverse and hands-on curriculum. We keep class sizes small, so that we can focus on individual student needs and ensure that every child who comes through our

doors receives a top education. They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we couldn't agree more. That's why we place a strong emphasis on community, encouraging parents to take an active role in their children's education, and teaching our students to pro-actively engage with society. "When we reconstruct a nation after the devastation of war or natural disasters, we should seek not merely to rebuild what once was, but to create something new that more truly approximates the very best possible." (Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, President of the Republic of Liberia)

A PROJECT OF THE DEAR FOUNDATION SWITZERLAND
As part of our commitment to providing a holistic education that extends beyond the classroom, LREC's Elementary Division recently completed a fantastic field trip. Our students had the opportunity to explore the Paynesville City Court and the newly constructed start-of-the art Liberia Learning Centre, gaining hands-on insights into civic life and literacy.

We wrapped up the day with some well-deserved fun and smiles at Bubbles Park! Seeing the impact of these excursions reaffirms our commitment to nurturing well-rounded, informed future leaders.

ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: FLASHER GARJUAN (CLASS OF 2019)
From Struggle to Success: My Journey with LREC and Beyond

'My name is Flasher, and from a young age, I knew I had to carve my own path. After leaving BCCI, I joined LREC, and that was a turning point. The school had highly qualified teachers, but my high school days were incredibly tough. Paying school fees was a constant struggle; I often had to do community work just to raise enough to stay in class. Every day was a fight, but even though my foundation was shaky, LREC didn’t just give me academics; it gave me hope. I learned vocational skills—electricity, bricklaying, computer basics—skills I never thought I could master. After graduating, I volunteered, then went to NVTI to learn computers, hoping to help my dad. But before I could finish, I lost him. Still, LREC gave me more than knowledge; it gave me confidence, resilience, and a vision. After that, I built Reto Multi Dreams Studio, offering video, music production, and electrical and computer services. Today, my business supports my siblings, my family, and my community. I share everything I know, because I once was that student fighting for a chance. My dream is to specialize even further—maybe travel abroad if the opportunity arises—so I can grow my craft. But no matter what, I know I’ll come back and build a studio that uplifts others. To all LREC students—stay strong, keep fighting, and if you ever feel like you can’t go on—remember, your struggles today can become the wings for tomorrow.'

To our Parents/Guardians,

Please be informed that we closed on April 17, 2026 in preparation for the upcoming WAEC Examinations. Students are expected to resume regular classes on Monday, April 27, 2026.

To ensure academic continuity, students have been provided with lessons and assignments to complete during this period. We kindly ask parents to monitor their children and ensure that all assignments are fully completed before they return.

We encourage all students to use this time effectively for revision and study. Additionally, parents are highly encouraged to 100% clear their child’s requirement fees on or before the resumption date.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of our students' success.

Here's a quick little song from our preschool students! The Liberia Renaissance Education Complex stands out in Early Childhood Education for its low teacher-to-student ratios, teaching staff trained in ECE pedagogy, and a focus on engaging, hands-on learning.

Children learn best when they’re having fun, so what better way to start each day than through song and dance!

INTERNATIONAL TEACHER TRAINING
Our teachers are feeling inspired and energized after a powerful return visit from Ria and Nathalie of Stichting Vrienden van Liberia. Visiting us from the Netherlands for the third time, their mission was twofold.

First, they met with our initial "lead batch" of 10 teachers to ascertain direct feedback, discuss the Explicit Direct Instruction (EDI) program implementation challenges, and review the resources needed to sustain the EDI program. Furthermore, based on the successful implementation by our first batch of 10 teachers, Ria and Nathalie were able to rollout the training to our entire teaching staff.

EDI is a structured, evidence-based teaching approach that ensures learning is clear and accessible for every student. By moving from a small group to a whole-school model, we are ensuring that every child at LREC—from Nursery to Grade 12—benefits from this international standard of teaching and learning.

We’re incredibly grateful to Ria and Nathalie of Stichting Vrienden van Liberia for their continued partnership. Their return to check on our progress and further equip our entire teaching staff is a testament to the meaningful connections we’ve built together.

At LREC, we believe in leading by example: our teachers continue to grow so that our students can soar.
