FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

The Movement for Progressive Change (MPC) has issued a blistering condemnation of the so-called expulsion of District #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah, describing the action by the Legislature as a dangerous abuse of power and a direct assault on Liberia’s democratic principles.

In a strongly worded statement released over the weekend, the MPC declared that the decision by members of the House of Representatives to expel Representative Kolubah over what they termed “treasonable” statements is not only illegal, but a reckless attempt to silence dissent and intimidate outspoken voices within the government.

“The Legislature has no constitutional authority to arbitrarily expel a duly elected representative for expressing his views on national issues,” the statement emphasized. “What we are witnessing is a troubling descent into political intolerance, where differing opinions are criminalized rather than debated.”

The MPC categorically rejected the characterization of Representative Kolubah’s comments as treasonable, arguing that such a claim is both exaggerated and politically motivated. According to the group, if any lawmaker believes that a statement rises to the level of treason, the proper course of action is to seek legal interpretation through the courts—not to resort to what it described as “mob justice within the chambers of power.”

Speaking under the signature of Secretary General Sam Passewe, the MPC stressed that the expulsion represents a gross violation of the Constitution and undermines the democratic mandate given to Representative Kolubah by the people of District #10.

“This action is unconstitutional, undemocratic, and unacceptable,” the statement asserted. “You cannot claim to uphold the rule of law while trampling upon the very rights and protections enshrined in the Constitution.”

The MPC further issued a stern warning to the Unity Party-led government, cautioning it against what it described as a growing pattern of constitutional violations under the guise of governance.

“We call on the government to immediately reverse course and respect the rule of law. The same Constitution you claim to defend under your so-called reform agenda cannot be selectively applied,” the statement noted. “Liberia’s democracy must not be reduced to a tool for political vendetta and suppression.”

The MPC concluded by reaffirming its commitment to defending democratic freedoms and called on civil society, the judiciary, and the international community to take keen interest in what it described as “a dangerous precedent that threatens the foundation of Liberia’s democracy.”

STAND CONDEMNS YEKEH KOLUBAH’S ‘EXPULSION’ AS A RUTHLESS WITCH-HUNT AND A DANGEROUS ATTACK ON FREE SPEECH

Monrovia, Liberia; April 17, 2026

The Solidarity and Trust for a New Day (STAND) unequivocally condemns the expulsion of Montserrado District-10 Representative, Hon. Yekeh Kolubah. It describes the action as a calculated witch-hunt and a direct assault on freedom of speech, intended to silence critical voices that continue to expose the excesses of the Boakai-led government.

This decision comes against the backdrop of the President’s troubling remark—“There are things that were not happening that will happen now.” STAND warns that the timing and context of this move point to a brazen political purge and a disturbing escalation in what increasingly appears to be a coordinated effort to undermine Liberia’s democratic foundations.

In expelling Hon. Yekeh Kolubah, the House of Representatives (under the Koon Speakership) has crossed a dangerous constitutional line by weaponizing its authority to silence dissent. This action carries the unmistakable imprint of a targeted political campaign, widely viewed as retaliation tied to Hon. Kolubah’s uncompromising stance on the Liberia–Guinea border issue.

More troubling is the emerging shadow of executive influence. The President’s own words now echo as a forewarning when he expressly stated “There are things that were not happening that will happen now, widely interpreting the unhealthy comment as a chilling signal that emboldens actions which weaken democratic norms and compromise legislative independence.

This is no longer about a single representative; it is an open attack on free expression, a warning to all critical voices, and a direct threat to democratic accountability.

STAND categorically rejects this abuse of power and stands firmly against all attempts to silence the people, suppress dissent, and erode Liberia’s fragile democracy.

Signed;

Mulbah K. Morlu, Jr.

SATCOM Accused of Defying Court Order: Civil Society Group Demands Immediate Action

Monrovia, Liberia – May 22, 2025

The Civil Society Council Working Group (CSCWG), a grassroots coalition committed to the rule of law and the rights of ordinary citizens, has strongly condemned what it describes as a blatant disregard for a Liberian court order by SATCOM Liberia and its CEO, Asaf Rosenheck.

SATCOM, a satellite broadcasting company operating in the country, was ordered shut down by the Liberian judiciary after being found guilty of illegally broadcasting premium football content, including the English Premier League and the Spanish LaLiga, without proper licensing. Despite this ruling, SATCOM has reportedly continued airing the matches in defiance of the court’s directive.

“We are deeply concerned and dismayed by the continued operation of SATCOM and the arrogance displayed by its CEO, Mr. Asaf Rosenheck,” the CSCWG stated in a press release. “This is a clear and deliberate violation of the laws of Liberia, and it undermines the authority of our judiciary.”

The civil society group further criticized what it views as a growing trend of foreign companies, particularly those led by Lebanese and other foreign nationals, showing contempt for Liberian law.

“It is saddening that foreigners operating on our soil continue to treat our laws as though they are meaningless,” the statement continued. “No one is above the law. SATCOM must not be allowed to continue these illegal broadcasts. If they wish to air content such as LaLiga or the Premier League, they must go back to the drawing table, negotiate proper licenses, and operate within the law.”

The CSCWG has called on the Ministry of Justice, the Liberia Broadcasting Authority, and all relevant agencies to enforce the court’s ruling without fear or favor. They emphasized that allowing SATCOM’s actions to go unchecked sets a dangerous precedent and erodes public trust in the country’s legal system.

“We will not stand by in silence while our courts are ridiculed,” the group concluded. “Let SATCOM respect our courts, comply with the law, or face the full consequences.”

As of this publication, SATCOM has not officially responded to the accusations.

THE PEOPLE MOVEMENT FOR DEMOCRACY (PMD)
Advocating Justice | Defending Rights | Empowering Citizens

Visionless Political Parties Continue to Pollute Liberia’s Political Landscape Part #1

Liberia’s political environment has become a cluttered, chaotic battleground, not of ideas or transformative visions, but of opportunism, self-promotion, and political masquerade.

The People Movement for Democracy (PMD) wishes to alert the Liberian populace that our nation’s political arena is being saturated by an alarming number of visionless political parties—groups with no defined direction, no ideology, and no capacity to lead.

These parties exist not to serve the people, but to gain visibility, hustle for appointments, or secure personal advancement. They barely scratch 1% of the national vote, yet remain constant noise-makers during election cycles.

The Reformers National Congress (RNC) leads this disappointing pack. Its standard bearer, Alexander N. Kollie, is a ghost in Liberia’s political discourse—absent in advocacy, missing in action during national debates, and only seen when it’s time to place a name on the ballot. Kollie’s political engagement is so minimal that even the most politically uninformed Liberian would struggle to identify him.

Liberia First Movement (LFM) is no better. Its leader, Sherikh N. Kouyateh, only found his political voice after being abandoned by the CDC during his senatorial bid in Montserrado County. His loss was overwhelming, his influence negligible. Kouyateh’s political posture reeks of resentment and opportunism, not national service.

Liberians For Prosperity (LFP) is another party with no clear direction. Richard Saye Miller, its vision bearer, has never made any meaningful contribution to the national dialogue. He appeared in politics like a man shopping for employment, not leading a movement for change.

The African Liberation League (ALL), headed by Sara Nyanti Beysolow, completes the circle of Liberia’s visionless political elite. Having supported the Unity Party in the last elections, she was handsomely rewarded with the post of Minister of Foreign Affairs—a position she now reportedly uses to spread division, breed corruption, and manage personal loyalties rather than national interests.

Beysolow’s rise to power was paved not by a clear political vision but by political allegiance and transactional politics. Her party, like many others, served only as a bargaining chip to secure personal gain, leaving the people she claims to serve in the dust.

Liberia is bleeding not just from economic hardship and underdevelopment, but from an infestation of political parties that lack ideology, lack principles, and most damningly—lack vision. These so-called leaders do not represent the future. They are political squatters, holding space for the highest bidder.

The People Movement for Democracy calls on Liberians to reject these visionless entities and demand accountable, transparent, and principled leadership. The country deserves better—and we, the people, must demand it.

DSTV Plans to Pull Out of Liberia: Unconfirmed Reports Suggest Departure Looms:

By Jekins Tweah

Unconfirmed reports indicate that MultiChoice Africa, the parent company of DSTV, is considering pulling out of Liberia after losing confidence in its local operations.

The satellite TV provider, headed by Liberian businessman Simeon Freeman, has faced growing challenges with its service delivery, sparking rumors of a potential exit from the market.

Multiple DSTV customers have expressed frustration over their inability to recharge subscriptions, with many being told by tellers at DSTV’s Fiamah Sinkor office that the system was down.

This issue has persisted for over two days, leading to widespread complaints among local subscribers, including owners of bars and video clubs, who rely heavily on DSTV for business.

While the details of MultiChoice Africa’s decision remain unverified, sources suggest that the company may be preparing to terminate its contractual agreement with Freeman, further fueling the uncertainty surrounding DSTV’s future in Liberia.
