Today, we celebrate the incredible contributions of Radiographers & Radiation therapists to healthcare.


Here are 5 facts to honor this special day:

1. World Radiography Day is celebrated annually on November 8th, marking the anniversary of Wilhelm Conrad Roentgen’s discovery of X-rays in 1895.

SIHINA 2024 – A Dream Realized, A Future Revitalized ✨
Led by Intake 38 – Radiography & Radiotherapy Department, KDU

What began as a dream to uplift and empower young minds has now become a heartfelt memory. Though we planned to officially open the renovated building on November 24, 2024, the tragic accident involving our fellow KDU students led us to cancel the ceremony out of respect and solidarity.

Despite the cancellation, our mission remained unchanged. The newly renovated building was handed over to the students of Illukovita Junior School, Thummodara, to use for their learning and growth.

Today (01st of June), we took another meaningful step by officially handing over the essential items we had planned to donate. These items were symbolically presented to a group of school children in the presence of the school principal and the English teacher, who stood with us throughout this journey and supported us unconditionally.

This achievement would not have been possible without the generosity and support of many.

ජෙනරාල් ශ්‍රීමත් සර් ජෝන් කොතලාවල ආරක්ෂක විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ විකිරණවේදී සහ විකිරණ ප්‍රතිකාරවේදී අධ්‍යනාංශය විසින් වාර්ෂිකව සිදු කරනු ලබන “සිහින” ව්‍යාපෘතිය ඔස්සේ සිතාවක ඉලුකෝවීට කණිෂ්ඨ පාසලේ පංති කාමර තුනකින් සමන්විත ගොඩනැල්ලක් නවීකරණය කර බාර දීමට සහ ඒ සමඟාමීව පාසල් සිසුන්ට අත්‍යවශය වන පාසල් ලිපි ද්‍රව්‍ය කට්ටල බෙදා දීමටද පසුගිය වසරේ නොවැම්බර් 24 දින කටයුතු සුදානම් කර තිබුණි.

කෙසේ වෙතත් එම දිනට දින කිහිපයකට පෙර අප විශ්ව විද්‍යාලයේ සිසුන් පිරිසක් මුහුණ දුන් දරුණු රිය අනතුර හේතුවෙන් අප විසින් එම උත්සවය අවලංගු කළ අතර එම දින සිටම (දෙසැම්බර් 24) සිසුන්ගේ භාවිතය සඳහා විදුහල්පතිතුමා වෙත එම ගොඩනැගිල්ල ලබා දෙනු ලැබුවා.

මෙම විවෘත කිරීමේ උත්සවයට සමඟාමීව අප විසින් පාසල් සිසුන්ට අත්‍යවශය වන පාසල් ලිපි ද්‍රව්‍ය කට්ටල 120කට අධික ප්‍රමාණයක් ද පාසල් දරුවන් අතර බෙදා දීමට බලාපොරොත්තුවෙන් සිටි නමුත් උත්සවය අවලංගු වීමත් සමඟ එම ද්‍රව්‍ය බෙදා දීමටද නොහැකි විය.

අද දින (ජුනි 01) එම අත්‍යවශය පාසල් ලිපි ද්‍රව්‍ය කට්ටල 120කට අධික ප්‍රමාණය පාසලේ විදුහල්පති තුමා ඇතුළු ගුරුභවතුන් සහ සිසු දරුවන් කිහිප දෙනෙකු වෙත සංකේතාත්මකව බෙදා දීම සිදු කරනු ලැබුවා.

සිසුන්ගේ සිහින සාර්ථක කර ගැනීම සඳහා “සිහින 2024” ආරම්භයේ සිටම උපකාර කළ ඔබ සියලු දෙනාට අපගේ නොමද ස්තුතිය පුද කර සිටිනවා.

Through the annual “SIHINA” project, organized by the Department of Radiography and Radiotherapy, General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University, we planned to renovate a classroom complex in Illukovita Primary School. Alongside this, we planned to distribute essential school stationery packs to the students on November 24th 2024.

However, just a few days before this scheduled event, due to a tragic accident involving several university students, we had to cancel the ceremony. Despite this, the renovated building was handed over to the school principal for the students’ use from that very day. In parallel with the opening ceremony, we had planned to distribute over 120 school stationery packs among the children. But due to the cancellation, we were unable to carry out the donation at that time.

Today, on 1st of June , we were finally able to symbolically hand over the 120+ school stationery packs to the school principal, school teachers, and a group of students who participated in the event.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who supported us from the beginning of the “SIHINA 2024” journey, for helping us bring the dreams of these children closer to reality.
