In parts of rural Sri Lanka, girls miss school for one reason.

We’re helping change that.

The Batticaloa District has been shaped by decades of civil conflict, the 2004 tsunami, and Sri Lanka’s ongoing economic crisis.

Malnutrition, limited healthcare, and educational shortages are common, and girls carry a disproportionate share of the burden.

A lack of sanitation, water access, and sanitary products, combined with cultural stigma around menstruation, means many girls simply stop attending school when they need it least.

Through our Strong Start project, in partnership with Good Shepherd International Foundation, we’ve reached real progress this year:
✅ 170 students completed reproductive health workshops
✅ 210 girls received reusable, sustainable sanitary pad packs
✅ 130 women became financially stable through Self-Help Groups

This isn’t just about the distribution of essential products and the delivery of workshops. It’s about classrooms staying full, girls staying in school, and young women building an income of their own.

Aleppo University Hospital has one ventilator for its entire intensive care unit.

After 14 years of conflict, the hospital’s intensive care and neurological units are critically short of basic equipment, the kind that keeps patients alive.

We’re helping fund Equip Aleppo, a project delivering a ventilator, two multi-parameter monitors, and a portable echocardiography device, alongside specialist training for the doctors, nurses and technicians who’ll use them.

Working with the Syrian American Medical Society over five months, this will strengthen the hospital’s ability to treat at least 500 patients a year with acute respiratory and neurological conditions.

2.5 km, over dangerous cliffs.

That’s the walk for clean water here.

This is a remote part of Nepal’s Solukhumbu district, once a stop on the original three-week Everest Base Camp trail. When Lukla airport opened and trekkers switched to a shorter route, the villages along the old trail lost the tourism that sustained them.

What’s left now is a community of around 20,000 people relying on a single free clinic, with Kathmandu too far and too costly to reach for most.

Through Make a Medic, we’re funding two things there:
✅ Salaries for a nurse and nurse’s assistant at Bumburi Medical Centre
✅ A water project piping clean water directly to 50 homes in Jubing village, removing the need for that cliffside trek altogether

This is early, unglamorous funding, the kind that keeps a clinic staffed and a pipe laid, rather than the kind that makes headlines.

We’ll share a proper evaluation as the project develops.

Up to 56 million women live with this condition.

Almost nobody is looking for it.

Female ge***al schistosomiasis is a neglected tropical disease that can cause ectopic pregnancies, infertility, and a higher risk of co-infection with HIV or HPV. There is currently no surveillance system for it, and the condition remains largely unknown, both in affected communities and among healthcare professionals.

The treatment already exists.

Praziquantel is cheap and readily available. The problem has never been the drug. It has been finding the women who need it.

Alongside Unlimit Health and the Ministry of Health in Côte d’Ivoire, we are funding a project to build a screening questionnaire and surveillance system, and to integrate FGS prevention into routine care for women aged 15 to 29.

40 national health leaders, 240 frontline health workers, and 96 community health workers are being trained across 48 health centres.

The project has the potential to reach up to 68,000 women, and to fold FGS prevention into existing HIV and HPV programmes rather than running it as a separate system.

A 2021 pilot already treated over 8,500 women. This is that work, scaled.
