🐘 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐢𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐧𝐞𝐱𝐭 𝐠𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐬!

On October 5th, the Student Researcher Program brought together youth from the University of Moratuwa, B/Orubendiwewa National School, and R/Sivali Central College at Udawalawe Elephant Transit Home (ETH).

Organized with Dilmah Conservation, the program featured sessions from leading experts:

- Dr. Chathura De Silva (University of Moratuwa) shared progress updates on the Student Researcher Program

- Ms. Narmadha Dangampola led "Understanding Elephants, Wild Animals, and their Behavior"

- Anil Withanage guided participants through elephant feeding and behavior observation

- Sameera Weeratunga (head of our field team 🧡🐘) facilitated discussions on coexistence challenges and mitigation strategies implemented in Hambantota

- Dr. Malaka Abeywardena provided insights into ETH's critical conservation work
The day concluded with a visit to the animal hospital, giving participants an up-close look at wildlife care and rehabilitation.
Together, these experiences help shape a new generation of conservation-minded youth dedicated to protecting Sri Lanka’s wildlife.🌿🐘

A petition calling on the government to take urgent action to resolve the ongoing Human-Elephant Conflict was signed in Embilipitiya.

The petition will be handed over to the Sri Lankan President, along with proposed solutions aimed at mitigating the conflict and fostering human-elephant coexistence. With more than 90,000 signatures already collected, this effort reflects a powerful call for immediate action.

Together, let’s work toward protecting both rural communities and Sri Lanka’s elephants. 🌿🐘
