Economic Development | Final delivery of chicks successfully completed! 🐥✨

On 28.03.2026, nearly 150 families in Mawadichchenai and Poonakar each received 25 chicks per family as part of this meaningful initiative.

Rotary strongly believes that this project will empower families to generate sustainable income, support their daily expenses, and contribute to the education of their children.

A small step towards economic development, but a big impact on many lives. 💛

Helping Poonakar Women Generate Income

Rotary Club of Trincomalee provided 25 chicks to each of 90 families in Poonakar today to support women in generating income and to assist their children who are studying at Poonakar Maha Vidyalayam.

This initiative was carried out under the DeSME – Development of SMEs program of Rotary International District 3220. The project aims to empower families through small-scale poultry farming and improve their household income.

The program was attended by Club President Rtn Prabakaran, Treasurer Rtn Uthayanan, President-Elect Rtn Arul Varatharaja, and Past President Rtn Kidnadas.

This is a meaningful initiative implemented under a Global Grant project, supporting sustainable small and medium enterprise development in the community.

Rotary Club of Trincomalee donated chicks to selected families in Mawadichchenai and Poonakar in the Verugal area, Trincomalee. ( First Phrase | 90 Families | out of 460 Families)

This initiative aims to support small and medium enterprise (SME) development and help families generate income to support the education of their children.

Secretary Rtn. Ahilan, Treasurer Rtn. Uthayanan, Charter Secretary Rtn. Thavasilingam, Club Admin chairman Rtn Jayashangar and Service Project Chairman Rtn. Raguram participated in the event.

Officials from the Divisional Secretariat Office – Verugal, the Principals of Verugalampathy Maha Vidyalayam and Poonakar Maha Vidyalayam, officials of WRDS, and several well-wishers were also present at the occasion.

This initiative reflects Rotary Trincomalee’s continued commitment to empowering communities and supporting sustainable livelihoods.

Rotary Club of Trincomalee conducted a training session for the beneficiaries from Mawadichchenai and Poonakar in Verugal, facilitated by the Veterinary Surgeon.

This program aims to empower families in both areas by providing 25 chicks to each family, helping them generate income to support their children’s education.

Club Secretary Rtn. Akilan, President Elect Rtn. Arulvaratharaja, Service Chairman Rtn. Raguraam, and Public Image Chairman Rtn. Nishkalananthan participated in this program.
