Vankalai Mangrove Conservation Initiative: Moving Forward

We recently visited Mannar to review the progress of the Vankalai Mangrove Conservation Initiative (VMCI) and plan the next phase of activities.

The project has experienced some delays due to circumstances beyond our control. However, with the necessary groundwork now falling into place, we are pleased to see the initiative ready to move forward, including the establishment of our mangrove nursery.

Mannar is currently experiencing severe drought conditions, further reminding us of the importance of protecting and restoring its fragile natural ecosystems.

VMCI is being undertaken in partnership with Anjuman-e-Saifi Sri Lanka (Trust) as the project owner and sponsor, and Green World Trust (Guarantee) Limited as the project implementation and management partner, with the valued cooperation of the relevant government authorities.

We look forward to progressing the initiative together with our partners, stakeholders and local communities. Kalinga Padmalal
