Sri Lanka Unites Reconciliation Center - Ampara Youth Movement For Hope and Reconciliation For three decades these divisions have been deepened by armed conflict and opportunistic political wrangling.

We will not let the hatred of the past control the present and destroy our future”

Sri Lanka has long been divided along ethnic lines. With the conclusion of the brutal civil war, a new era has dawned upon us. Sri Lanka has been granted a unique and unmissable opportunity to learn from past mistakes, and find durable solutions for the future. The doors for reconcilitation and reconstruction have

now been opened. And it is time for the youth of this country to step through these doors with the conviction that the best is yet to come. In this critical period of transition, we have the opportunity to replace a culture of divisiveness and conflict and be a voice for change; for HOPE and RECONCILIATION. The Sri Lanka Unites movement represents this choice of Sri Lanka's youth, from all ethnic and religious groups - to rise up and provide a new voice. Vision:

To unite the youth of Sri Lanka from all ethnic and religious groups in a movement which provides hope and facilitates reconciliation in Sri Lanka, paving the way for a peaceful and prosperous Sri Lanka for future generations. To celebrate and value the diversity of Sri Lanka’s different ethnic and religious heritages, each of which enrich our lives as common citizens of Sri Lanka. To see the combined strength of all young people in our diverse nation used to secure peace and prosperity. To create a united Sri Lanka where young people are intentional about working together with members of different ethnicities, religions, classes and castes for the sustainable development of our beautiful nation. To transform the youth of Sri Lanka into people who have hope for their future and their country; who are proactive in working for the positive development of mother Lanka. Action:

Sri Lanka Unites will continuously take a multi-pronged approach to further the cause of reconciliation. We will instill reconciliation through our regional youth leaders. We believe that reconciliation comes not from the coziness of a capital, but from the grassroots of a nation. We will bring to you success stories from across the country of people who are pioneering positive changes to drive our country forward. Meanwhile, remaining ever conscious of the current needs in the North. We will continue to actively engage in the humanitarian efforts there.

‘Youth Leadership for a United Country’

As the next generation moves into leadership, we, the youth of Sri Lanka hold the future of our country in our hands. In this critical period of transition for the country, We have the opportunity to replace a culture of divisiveness and conflict and be a voice for change; for hope and reconciliation. The Sri Lanka Unites movement represents this choice of our nation’s youth, from ethnic and religious groups, from across the country, to rise up and provide a new voice. Sri Lanka Unites Ampara Reconciliation Centre recently organized a refresher event for the children enrolled in the E-Sponsorship program under the KNH ‘HOPE’ Project. Children from Thandiyadi, Sammanthurai, Karaithivu, Sainthamaruthu, Kalmunai, and Pandiruppu participated in this meaningful gathering.

The event created a lively and supportive space where the children engaged in leadership games, team-building activities, and conflict resolution games that encouraged cooperation, communication, and mutual understanding. Through these interactive sessions, the children learned the importance of listening to one another, working together, and finding peaceful ways to solve disagreements.

In addition, the children participated in Forum Theatre activities, where they explored real-life situations and acted out possible solutions. This creative method helped them reflect on everyday challenges while building confidence, empathy, and problem-solving skills.

The refresher event aimed to strengthen friendships among the children, refresh their learning experiences within the E-Sponsorship program, and nurture leadership and reconciliation values among young participants from different communities.

It was inspiring to see the children learning, laughing, and supporting each other while building a stronger sense of unity and hope for the future.

Under the Humanitarian and Emergency Assistance Project, HOPE’s Beacon, Sri Lanka Unites provided mosquito nets to selected flood-affected families with children under five, aiming to reduce the risk of dengue and other mosquito-borne diseases.
This Activity was implemented in the Navithanvely Division, covering Annamalai 01, Annamalai 02, and Navithanvely GN areas, where many families were exposed to increased health risks after the floods.
By prioritizing households with young children, the activity seeks to protect the most vulnerable and promote a safer and healthier living environment within the community.
