Forum for Rural Income and Environmental Development Services Forum for Rural Income & Environmental Development Services (FRIENDS) is a non-profit organization established in 2011.

Our core areas of work encompass Gender Economic Empowerment, Alcohol & drug prevention, Child rights and Environmental Development. Forum for Rural Income & Environmental Development Services Guarantee Limited is a nongovernmental organization in Sri Lanka established in year 2011 to uplift the living status of poor families. Livelihood development, women empowerment, promoting better environment

al practices and community mobilization are the main programme sectors the organization works with. FRIENDS works over 100 villages in 7 districts targeting vulnerable families and paying additional attention in women’s economic empowerment. Lack of opportunities and poor access to economic resources are the major issues needed to be addressed in improving status of women. FRIENDS focuses on economic empowerment by developing sustainable livelihood options which minimizes the gender gap. Rapid commercialization and materialistic pattern of living creates more strain on the environment. FRIENDS create awareness, promote environment friendly practices at community and house hold levels. FRIENDS also addresses the poverty related other issues prevailing in the rural communities such as usage of alcohol & drugs, poor access to services and information which affects development.

A grant distribution program was conducted in the Maruthankerny Division, Jaffna District, under the Sanmarga Project. The program was organized to provide financial assistance to selected beneficiaries to support their livelihood development and strengthen their income-generating activities.

The grants were distributed to the selected beneficiaries in accordance with the approved project criteria. The distribution was carried out successfully with the participation of the relevant project staff and community representatives, ensuring a transparent and accountable process. The program is expected to enhance beneficiaries' economic resilience by enabling them to establish or expand sustainable livelihood activities and improve their household income.

On 23 July 2026, the District Counseling Officer of Badulla conducted a counseling program for selected students at Godunna Maha Vidyalaya in the Kandakettiya Division. The Child Rights Officer also participated in the program, which was attended by 90 students.

In addition, an awareness program was conducted for the parents of identified at-risk and vulnerable children in the Kandakettiya Division under the guidance of the Child Rights Officer. The session focused on enhancing parents' awareness of child protection, the importance of providing a safe and supportive family environment, and the available support services for at-risk and vulnerable children. The program encouraged parents to play an active role in safeguarding their children's well-being and promoting their healthy development.

🌿 Vegetable & Fruits Drying Training – Karaveddy Division 🌿

On 12 July 2026, a Vegetable and Fruits Drying Training was successfully conducted in Karaveddy Division with the participation of 20 beneficiaries.

The training provided practical knowledge and hands-on experience in drying and preserving vegetables and fruits, enabling participants to reduce food waste, add value to agricultural produce, and explore new income-generating opportunities.

Mental Health Awareness Program – Mahakumbukkadawala Division

A Mental Health Awareness Program was successfully conducted on 23.06.2026 at PU/Baranankattuwa KV, under the Mahakumbukkadawala Divisional Secretariat.

The session was facilitated by Dr. Govinnage, Consultant Psychiatrist, who served as the resource person and provided valuable insights on mental health, emotional well-being, and coping strategies for students.

A total of 241 participants attended the program, including 79 male students, 144 female students, and 18 staff members. In addition, 4 officers from the Divisional Secretariat Office and 15 teachers participated in the awareness session.

The program enhanced participants' understanding of mental health issues and promoted the importance of seeking support, maintaining emotional well-being, and creating a positive and supportive school environment.

A Mental Health Awareness Programme was successfully held on 24th June 2026 at Deliwa Mahavidyalaya, Madulla.

The programme was facilitated by Dr. Sanjaya Madhusanga from the MOH Office, Monaragala District, who participated as the resource person. The session focused on promoting mental well-being, raising awareness about mental health issues, and encouraging positive coping strategies among students.

📢 Mental Health Awareness Program – St. Antony's College

The Mental Health Awareness Program was successfully held at St. Antony's College in the Kayts division of the Jaffna District, where it engaged the participation of 146 students.

The program was facilitated by resource persons from the MOH Kayts Office, CRPO, National Child Protection Authority (NCPA), SPM, and the Rev. Father, who provided valuable guidance on mental well-being, emotional resilience, child protection, and healthy coping strategies.

The session created an opportunity for students to gain awareness about mental health, seek support when needed, and develop positive attitudes towards personal well-being.
