Cyclone Ditwah – Joint Rapid Needs Assessment (JRNA)
Under the leadership of the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), UN agencies together with development partners, local NGOs and civil society organisations have successfully completed the initial Joint Rapid Needs Assessment (JRNA) for Cyclone Ditwah.
Child Vision Sri Lanka (Puttalam) also contributed to the assessment by conducting surveys flood-affected Wanathawilluwa Divisional Secretariat in the Puttalam District, collecting vital field-level data to better understand the needs of the affected communities.
The data collection was carried out from Tuesday, 9 December 2025 to Friday, 12 December 2025.
We extend our *sincere thanks* to the *Divisional Secretariat, MOH, Agrarian Department, Public Health Office, Zonal Education Office*, and the *affected community members* for their valuable support in providing the data.

Today is World Braille Day! Braille writing is an impactful tool for communication and literacy, opening up new opportunities and possibilities in autonomy, education, and advocacy for blind and vision-impaired people.

Braille is a respected and recognised form of communication because of the work of young people with disability - Louis Braille was just 15 years old when he created the Braille system, and in 2015, 12 year old Connor McLeod fought for tactile features on Australian bank notes. Used across languages, maths, science and music, it has paved the way for diverse forms of accessibility, including audio and screen reader tools, and highlighted the importance of accessible design in digital and physical spaces.

Today is a reminder that a world that is accessible, is a world with more opportunity and freedom. 💜

[Image: This tile features an image of a woman using a Braille terminal computer in an office. She is of Asian descent, with fair skin and long black hair, wearing a white t-shirt. The white WWDA logo is in the top-left corner in a purple round organic shape. In a purple wavy banner at the bottom of the tile, white text says "World Braille Day", above the Braille symbols for World Braille Day.]
