Globally, many women contribute significantly to food production. However, the majority of them do not have access to healthy food, nor do they receive fair wages for their work. Both developed and developing countries must ensure access to nutritious food and a healthy lifestyle for every citizen. Food sovereignty encompasses food security, a healthy lifestyle, and equitable access to nutritious food, ensuring that no one is left behind. However, in today’s world, the excessive use of pesticides in food production is a growing concern. Producers must avoid such harmful chemicals and focus on cultivating healthy, organic food. Additionally, due to the demands of modern work and lifestyle, many young people prefer fast food, as it is more convenient. Unfortunately, they often neglect the importance of consuming healthy meals. In the plantation sector, workers are not paid fair wages for their labor, making it difficult for them to afford nutritious food for themselves and their children. As a result, malnutrition is increasing among plantation children, and women in these communities are
becoming physically weaker. So, we kindly request the Sri Lankan government to ensure food sovereignty for everyone in the country and to specifically address the plantation sector by providing fair wages to plantation workers. Additionally, we request the government to promote the production of healthy, pesticide-free food for all citizens.
