This International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we’re celebrating change that’s already happening.

We recently welcomed 100 new micro-entrepreneurs who joined our effort towards helping reduce poverty in the East. 100 families - powered by new equipment and mentorship - stepping into a better future with our support. Women. Youth. Local farmers. Individuals with special needs. All changemakers, all given the chance to build something of their own.

It all traces back to one man’s belief that tea could change the world. Merrill J. Fernando’s legacy lives on - now reaching over 2,500 entrepreneurs since 2004, through Dilmah’s pledge to serve communities through the MJF Foundation.

This is what making the world a better tea looks like - one family, one business at a time.

Here’s what a meal can do.

In the Batticaloa District today, 568 children across five rural schools are being supported with a nutritious school meal through Harvest². The meals are cooked by parents in renovated school kitchens, and the ingredients come from local farmers and traders. Since the programme began in May, the schools have seen attendance rise, dropouts fall and room for extra classes in the afternoon.

Food is more than what’s on a plate. It keeps a child in class, gives a parent work and gives a farmer a market.

We’re not stopping at 568. Phase II aims to reach 2,700+ children across 23 schools, with farmers, students and nature growing together.

🌾 This World Food Day, we’re celebrating the connection between the farm and the school plate, with a throwback to the day we began Harvest².

Since its launch on 2nd May 2026, Harvest² has been bringing small-scale farmers and rural students together across the Batticaloa District. Phase I is now underway in five rural schools, reaching 568 students across four education zones.

Each school is becoming a living classroom. Organic food is grown, native ecosystems are restored, and conservation lessons are taught. Clean biogas cooking in every cluster kitchen powers it all. Farmers earn livelihoods, children eat nourishing meals, and the environment gains a new generation of guardians.
What we learn in Phase I will shape Phase II, which will grow the programme to 23 schools and more than 2,700 students.

Harvest² is a partnership between the MJF Foundation, Dilmah Conservation and Plate It Forward (Australia). It is built on the principles of our Sustainable Empowerment Programme.

Good food starts with healthy soil, thriving farmers and curious young minds. 🌱

Healing isn't only physical. At the MJF Foundation, we know that real community care means looking after minds, not just bodies and livelihoods.

Across our programmes, from our centres for children and families to our outreach in estate and rural communities, mental health support is woven into how we show up: safe spaces to talk, trained counsellors and caregivers, and a community that doesn't look away.

This World Mental Health Day, we're reaffirming a simple belief: no one should have to carry it alone.

Cerebral palsy doesn't limit what a child can achieve, access does.

They're usually the ones we're told to protect. This Children's Day, 15 children from our Centre for Children with Cerebral Palsy & other Developmental Disorders (CCCPDD) took the stage to protect others, performing an original drama on child protection awareness.

Fifteen young performers. One powerful message: every child deserves to be safe, heard, and protected.

Congratulations to Dilhani Sudeshika - one of our own Rainbow Centre girls - on receiving the Blue All Round Cord Award, the highest achievement award for girls with disabilities in the Sri Lanka Girl Guides Association! 🎉

Presented at Temple Trees, this award, equivalent to the President's Guide Award, recognises leadership, commitment, community service, and personal growth across every area of Guiding, not just individual activities completed.

Since joining the Rainbow Programme in June 2019, Dilhani has shown exactly that: consistent dedication, enthusiasm, and a genuine commitment to her own growth, year after year.

This is what's possible when talent is given the space and support to grow. We couldn't be prouder of you, Dilhani!

More than one in five school children in Sri Lanka feel chronically lonely and isolated, and school holidays can make it worse. . A Ministry of Health school health survey found that 22.4% of school-aged children reported feelings of loneliness, where health authorities are warning of a deep-seated mental health crisis, fueled by shifting digital habits.

When physical play and school routines stop, everyday boredom quickly turns into hours in front of a screen. Our school holiday programme and Tuk Tuk Library brings something different to communities: books, reading, play and learning together. Beyond improving access to books and literacy, these programmes give children a healthy, educational alternative to digital devices and a chance to reconnect with each other.
