INTERNATIONAL MANGROVE CONSERVATION DAY 2026 🌿

Today, we celebrate one of nature's most extraordinary ecosystems—Mangrove forests.

Mangroves are far more than just coastal trees. They protect our shorelines from erosion, provide vital nursery grounds for fish and countless marine species, store significant amounts of carbon, and support the livelihoods of coastal communities. Their roots create a thriving habitat where biodiversity flourishes.

Despite their immense value, mangroves continue to face threats from coastal development, pollution, and unsustainable human activities. Protecting and restoring these unique forests is essential for safeguarding our oceans, combating climate change, and ensuring a sustainable future for generations to come.

Today, let us recognize the importance of mangroves and renew our commitment to conserving and restoring these invaluable ecosystems.

TCP conducted an engaging awareness session on the marine biodiversity and conservation for the primary students of the School for the Deaf in Ratmalana. Through interactive and inspiring discussions, we encouraged these young minds to discover the beauty and importance of our oceans and coastal ecosystems.

We also took the opportunity to appreciate the students who participated in the Werale Asiriya 2026 All Island School Art Competition, for their creativity and enthusiasm. 🌊✨

One year of inspiring young minds to explore, appreciate, and protect the natural world 🌎💚

An initiative of the Turtle Conservation Project (TCP), Nature Pioneers' Society (NPS) has completed a wonderful first year of inspiring children to explore, learn about, and care for nature. From learning about wildlife and ecosystems to creating unforgettable memories together, every step has been part of a meaningful journey.

We appreciate our children, parents, volunteers, and everyone who has supported Nature Pioneers' Society. Here's to continuing our mission of nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards.

🌊 ✨World Sea Turtle Day 2026

On World Sea Turtle Day, we celebrate one of the ocean's most ancient and iconic marine species. Sea turtles have inhabited our oceans for millions of years and play a vital role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

Despite their resilience, sea turtles face increasing threats from plastic pollution, ghost nets and other marine debris, coastal habitat degradation, unsustainable fishing practices, illegal egg collection, and the impacts of climate change. These challenges continue to endanger their survival worldwide.

Sri Lanka is home to five of the world's seven species of marine turtles, making our beaches and coastal waters critically important for global sea turtle conservation. Protecting these species is not only a national responsibility but also a contribution to global biodiversity conservation.

Each of us can help protect sea turtles by reducing plastic use, disposing of waste responsibly, supporting sustainable coastal practices, protecting nesting beaches, and spreading awareness about marine conservation.

At the Turtle Conservation Project (TCP), we remain committed to the protection and conservation of sea turtles through research, nest and habitat protection, community engagement, and environmental education. Together with our partners, supporters, and coastal communities, we continue working towards a safer future for Sri Lanka's sea turtles.

Let us all unite to ensure that future generations can continue to witness these magnificent ocean travelers in our seas.
