Did you know that caring for our environment is a call to protect our common home? On June 16, 2026, 15 passionate young people gathered at the YMCA of Pamunugama for a meaningful youth dialogue to explore the profound message of Laudato Si’.

Led by Ms. Sanduni Mahesha, a lecturer at Aquinas College of Higher Studies, this session delved into Laudato Si’—a major papal encyclical and a key teaching document that presents the Catholic Church’s moral vision on environmental stewardship. In partnership with World Vision, we explored these core principles, discussing how our daily choices impact the world around us.

🌟🛝 The YMCA of Pamunugama celebrated the opening of its new playground on 12 June 2026, marking the successful completion of Playground Builders 10.0.

The project was facilitated by the YMCA of Negombo 🤝 and brought together 12 youth volunteers and 2 leaders from the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong 🇭🇰. From 7–10 June, they worked to create this special space for the children of the community 👧👦.

🎉 The opening ceremony welcomed around 60 participants, including children, scouts, youth members, board members, and volunteers.

The day was filled with joy as children enjoyed the new playground and shared memorable moments with the visiting volunteers ❤️🌏.

🙏 Tokens of appreciation were presented to the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong and YMCA of Negombo in recognition of their support, partnership, and commitment to the project.

🛝🌏 Today (07 June, 2026), 12 youth members and 2 leaders from Playground Builders 10.0 of the Chinese YMCA of Hong Kong began building playground equipment for the children of YMCA of Pamunugama.
Facilitated by the YMCA of Negombo, this project brings together young people in a spirit of service, friendship, and community. 🤝❤️
A wonderful first day, and we look forward to seeing the playground come to life in the days ahead! ✨

🎉💙 Celebrating 182 Years of YMCA! 💙🎉

Today, the YMCA of Pamunugama proudly marked the 182nd YMCA Founder’s Day with the participation of 28 scouts, 9 amazing students from Makalause Dream, and our dedicated board and youth members. All together 55.

🙏 We began with a time of prayer, reflecting on the YMCA movement, global peace, and the wellbeing of children.

🎨 Through an inclusive workshop, participants of all ages came together to create posters on “What the YMCA Means to Me,” showcasing the spirit of unity, service, and belonging.

✍️ As a symbol of our commitment to the YMCA mission, everyone signed a copy of the Paris Basis before gathering to cut the Founder’s Day cake. 🎂

182 years on, the YMCA continues to bring people together, inspire service, and build stronger communities.
