“Wetland Biodiversity Watch” Begins at Bellanwila-Attidiya

(February 16, 2025)

On a clear day under warm sunshine, the Eco Brigade (EBSL), in collaboration with YZA, successfully conducted the first session of the Wetland Biodiversity Watch at Bellanwila-Attidiya, guided by the exceptional expertise of Dr. Jagath Gunawardana. Despite facing challenges from invasive species, pollution, and human interference, we documented more than 25 bird species, three fish species (including one introduced species), several damselflies, and dragonflies. To our delight, we also spotted purple-faced langurs, highlighting the ecological significance of the wetland.

This wetland is essential, and we are dedicated to its protection. These biodiversity watches will help us monitor the ecosystem and raise public awareness. Stay tuned for the upcoming session!

ලෝක තෙත්බිම් දිනය යෙදෙන 2025 පෙබරවාරි මාසයට ජාතික තෙත්බිම් ප්‍රතිපත්තිය හඳුන්වා දී වසර 20ක් ගතවී ඇත. "අපේ අනාගතය වෙනුවෙන් තෙත්බිම් රැකගනිමු " යන තේමාව පෙරටු කරගනිමින් සමරනු ලැබු ලෝක තෙත්බිම් දිනය වෙනුවෙන් අප සංගමය විසින් සිදුකරන තෙත්බිම් ජෛව විවිධත්වය පිළිබඳ ක්ෂේත්‍ර වැඩමුළුවේ පලමුවැන්න පරිසරවේදි නීතිඥ ආචාර්ය ජගත් ගුණවර්ධන මහතා විසින් බෙල්ලන්විල අත්තිඩිය අභය භුමියේ සිදු කරනු ලබයි.තෙත්බිම් ගැන දැනගන්න ⁣,තෙත්බිම් රැකගන්න ඉකෝ බ්‍රිගේඩ් අපිත් එක්ක ඔබත් එන්න.

February 2025 marks 20 years since the introduction of the National Wetlands Policy. To celebrate World Wetlands Day with the theme "Wetlands for our common future", we at Eco Brigade initiated a continuous education programme on wetlands “ Bio Diversity Watch” As the first step a field workshop on wetland biodiversity will be conducted by Environmentalist and Lawyer Dr Jagath Gunawardena at the Bellanwila Attidiya Sanctuary on the 16th of February 2025., join us to protect wetlands for our common future.

On World Wetlands Day, the lecture about wetlands jointly organized by Sobhaketa Center of Central Environment Authority and Ecobrigade was held on February 02, 2025, at Atthidiya Sobhaketa Center.

ලෝක තෙත්බිම් දිනය වෙනුවෙන් ඉකෝබ්‍රිගේඩ් සහ මධ්‍යම පරිසර අධිකාරියට අයත් සොබාකෙත මධ්‍යස්ථානය හා එක්ව සංවිධානය කල තෙත්බිම් පිළිබඳ දේශනය 2025 පෙබරවාරි 02 දින අත්තිඩිය සොබාකෙත මධ්‍යස්ථානයේදී පැවැත්විනි.

The World Wetlands Celebration, organized by the Atthidiya Office of the Department of Wildlife Conservation, Eco Brigade Sri Lanka (EBSL), and the Young Zoologists’ Association of Sri Lanka, was held on February 2, 2025, at Bellanwila Atthidiya Sanctuary. School students from Piliyandala and Galkissa participated in a field trip focused on wetland birds, attended lectures on the sanctuary's history and threats, and visited exhibition booths on invasive species, mangroves, and turtles. The Turtle Conservation Project and the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society also took part, with funding provided by LB Finance.

වනජීවී සංරක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ අත්තිඩිය කාර්යාලය, ඉකෝ බ්‍රිගේඩ් සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තරුණ සත්ත්වවේදීන්ගේ සංගමය එක්ව සංවිධානය කල ලෝක තෙත්බිම් සැමරුම 2025 පෙබරවාරි 02 දින බෙල්ලන්විල අත්තිඩිය අභය භූමියේදී පැවැත්විනි. මෙම වැඩසටහනේදී පිලියන්දල හා ගල්කිස්ස ප්‍රදේශයේ පාසල් සිසු සිසුවියන් හට තෙත් බිම් පකෂීන් පිලිබඳව ක්ෂේත්‍ර චාරිකාවක්, බෙල්ලන්විල අත්තිඩිය අභය භූමියේ ඉතිහාසය පිළිබදව හා වර්ථමාන තර්ජන පිලිබදව දැනුවත් කිරීමේ දේශණ සහ ආක්‍රමණික ජීවීන් කඩොලාන හා කැස්බෑවුන් පිළිබද ප්‍රදර්ශන කුටි ද ප්‍රදර්ශනය කරන ලදි. මෙම වැඩසටහන සඳහා කැස්බෑ සංරක්ෂණ ව්‍යාපෘතිය, වන සත්ත්ව හා ස්වභා ආරක්ෂක සංගමය ද එක් වූ අතර මූල්‍යමය දායකත්යව එල් බී ෆිනෑන්ස් ආයතනය විසින් දරන ලදි

සොබාකෙත එකමුතුව, ඉකෝබ්‍රිගේඩ් සංවිධානය සහ තරුන සත්ත්වවේදීන්ගේ සංගමය එක්ව සිදුකල පරිසර වැඩමුලුව. 2024 දෙසැම්බර් 15 වන දින අත්තිඩිය සොබාකෙත පරිස්‍රයේ සිදුකෙරිනි. මෙම වැඩසටහන සදහා සම්පත්දායකත්වය ඉකෝබ්‍රිගේඩ් සංවිධානයේ සභාපති හසන්ත විජේතුංග මහතා සහ නීතීඥ ලක්ශිත එදිරිසිංහ මහතා විසින් ලබාදෙන ලදි.
