Beach Cleanup Program led by Clean Ocean Force Youth, held last Sunday at Crow Island Beach in collaboration with Ex-pack Corrugated Cartons PLC, with the valuable support and participation of the Sri Lanka Police Environmental Division.

In the aftermath of recent monsoonal conditions, Crow Island Beach was significantly affected by accumulated waste that had been washed ashore and scattered along the coastline. In response, the team carried out a well coordinated large scale cleanup operation, working together with strong commitment and teamwork to restore the natural beauty of the beach environment.

A total of 656 kg (wet weight) of waste was successfully collected and removed from the site. The majority of the debris consisted of polythene, mixed solid waste, and discarded cloth materials, reflecting the ongoing impact of marine and land based pollution on coastal ecosystems.

This initiative highlights a shared responsibility toward environmental protection and sustainable coastal management. It also emphasizes the importance of continuous community engagement and collaboration between organizations in preserving natural resources and ensuring cleaner, healthier beaches for future generations.

Clean Ocean Force Created a Historical Movement at Trincomalee 🌊

On 8th June 2026, Clean Ocean Force, in partnership with the Marine Environment Protection Authority-Sri Lanka and the Earthlanka Youth Network, successfully conducted a National Underwater Cleanup Initiative at Trincomalee Dutch Bay.

This large scale environmental mission brought together around six dive centers from Trincomalee, working side by side to address significant seabed pollution and restore the health of vital marine ecosystems. The underwater environment in the area showed clear impact following the Ditwa incident, with large amounts of plastic waste, rubber gloves, clothing, and mixed debris spread across the seabed highlighting the urgent need for coordinated action.

Through multiple collaborative dives, the teams achieved a remarkable environmental outcome. COF dive team removed 1,378 kg of underwater waste across two dives, while another dive team together with EarthLanka collected 443 kg. Additional dive centers contributed approximately 500 kg more, bringing the total to nearly 2.4 tonnes of marine debris removed in a single national effort.

We extend our sincere appreciation to NDB Bank for their valued support and commitment to environmental responsibility. Special recognition goes to Scuba Diving Sri Lanka Kalpitiya diving center for their outstanding coordination in mobilizing dive teams, along with the Trincomalee Police Life Saving Unit dive team and Pigeon island diving center for their support throughout the program.

Our deepest gratitude goes to every volunteer diver and team member whose dedication, and teamwork made this initiative a true success, reflecting the strength of unity in ocean conservation.

Together, we continue to protect, preserve, and restore our oceans for future generations. 🌊

We showed up for our ocean at Beneath the Blue, Colombo City Centre!
World Ocean Day 2026 brought little explorers, curious adults, and passionate changemakers all under one roof and Clean Ocean Force was right there in the middle of it all.

The little ones colored, searched for words, and took on hands-on challenges, while adults dove deep into conversations on recycling, marine life, and how our everyday choices ripple all the way to the ocean floor.

Our youth proudly showcased handcrafted bracelets made by our empowered women, eco-friendly alternatives to plastic, and delivered two powerful talks: "From Beach Litter to Ocean Crisis: What Happens After We Throw Things Away?" and "Small Action, Big Waves: How Communities Can Protect Our Ocean" that sparked real conversations about plastic, pollution, and the power of community action.

Because protecting our ocean starts with awareness. And awareness starts with us.

A productive meeting was held at the High Commission of South Africa to discuss the Nelson Mandela Day celebration 2026 for the 2nd consecutive year.

We were also honoured to meet the new Deputy High Commissioner Her excellency Nthabiseng Ramatshela and Ms. Jeanette Mphepu second secretary (Political). The meeting was focussed on organising this special event while exchanging views and insights on measures and policies implemented by both countries in Marine and coastal conservation.

Clean Ocean Force has been working closely with the South African High Commission over the past three years, successfully implementing numerous joint initiatives together.
