Clean Ocean Force together with 56 dedicated NDB Bank staff members, carried out a high-impact beach cleanup program at Kapumgoda Beach, removing a total of 641.25(Wet weight) kg of waste from the coastal environment. Among the 427.75 kg was polythene and polythene pieces, highlighting the continuing challenge of plastic pollution along our coastline and the urgent need for stronger action to prevent waste from reaching our beaches.
This initiative is part of NDB Bankβs ongoing three-year partnership with Clean Ocean Force under the Adopt-a-Beach program, supporting the long-term protection and conservation of Kapumgoda Beach. Through this partnership, three dedicated beach caretakers continuously monitor and maintain the beach, helping sustain the impact of regular cleanup and conservation efforts.
The cleanup was further strengthened by the support of Clean Ocean Force Youth, the Sri Lanka Police Environmental Division, and the Negombo Municipal Council, bringing together young volunteers, government authorities, local officials, and the private sector with one shared commitment to protect our coastline.
Following the cleanup, a special site visit and discussion were held with the relevant Public Health Inspectors and officials to identify practical measures and stronger actions to address beach littering and prevent the improper disposal of waste in the surrounding area.
Beach cleanups are not just about removing waste they are about creating lasting change. Through continued collaboration, community engagement, awareness, and stronger waste-management actions, we are working to reduce litter at its source and safeguard Kapumgoda Beach for the future.
