The Hope Foundation Sri Lanka is the Corporate Social Responsibility of Lords Restaurant Complex in Negombo a Board of Investment & Tourist Board approved project since 2003 The Hope Foundation Sri Lanka
How We Began
The Hope Foundation was established in October 2003 during the construction of Lords Restaurant Complex in Negombo Beach, Sri Lanka. The mother, later named Hope, was too weak to car
e for them. They were all adopted, nursed back to health, and lived long and happy lives at the sanctuary. This moment inspired the launch of The Hope Foundation — a life-changing mission to protect and care for Sri Lanka’s street animals. Our Mission
With over 35 years of travel to Sri Lanka and as the owner of Lords Restaurant Complex, our founder has witnessed the daily challenges faced by street dogs and cats across the country. While many Sri Lankans love animals, economic hardship often makes it difficult to care for them. As a result, puppies and kittens are frequently abandoned at temples, churches, markets, or outside homes in the hope they’ll survive. The Hope Foundation was created to take meaningful action — rescuing animals, promoting responsible care, and encouraging a culture of kindness and compassion for all living beings. How We Are Funded
Lords Restaurant Complex is the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) provider of The Hope Foundation, funding approximately 90% of all animal welfare work carried out. This vital support allows the foundation to focus entirely on helping animals in need. There are no administration costs — every rupee donated goes directly to animal care. Additional funding comes from:
Guest donations at Lords Restaurant Complex
Contributions from global supporters via PayPal: PayPal.me/slhopefoundation
This unique CSR partnership sustains and strengthens The Hope Foundation’s mission to save lives and create lasting change. Our Animal Sanctuary
We’ve rehomed hundreds of animals over the years, but many with special needs remain in our care. Our sanctuary — located on a 3-acre property and the personal home of the restaurant’s owner — provides a safe, loving environment. All resident dogs enjoy freedom during the day within secure garden enclosures and sleep safely indoors at night. They are fed twice daily, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and given personalised care and affection. The cats live separately at the Lords staff accommodation, where they are also provided with a calm, secure space and receive daily care and love. At present, we care for 38 resident dogs and 8 cats, though numbers often vary as animals recover and are either rehomed or returned to familiar surroundings with continued support through our feeding program. Sterilization & Population Control
Controlling the stray population through spay and neuter programs is essential to reducing suffering and the spread of disease such as rabies. Between 2009 and 2015, The Hope Foundation facilitated thousands of sterilizations. While other local organizations now lead this area, we have refocused on rescue, rehoming, medical care, and feeding programs to support animals in crisis. Supporting Local Pet Owners
We also assist Sri Lankan pet owners who cannot afford medical treatment for their dogs or cats. Many of these animals live in poor conditions or are left to roam freely, facing the same risks as street animals. Our aim is to prevent suffering, reduce abandonment, and encourage responsible pet ownership. How You Can Help
