Protecting Our Children Together

Second Child Rights Activists Group Meeting

We formed the Child Rights Activists Group to bring together key stakeholders and discuss how to safeguard and protect children in our community. The first meeting of the activist group was held at St. Anthony's College, Mankuliya, on 2nd September 2026.

Discussions were centered on cyberbullying prevention, online safety, the Happy Family concept and career guidance. The group is formed with the aim of keeping children safe, strengthening family relationships and supporting responsible digital behavior, preventing substance abuse, and supporting children in making positive and informed choices for their future.

Don Bosco Development Centre renewed its commitment to working alongside schools, families, government authorities, and the community in shared responsibility for children's protection and development.

Attendees included Rev. Fr. Viraj Chamara, Executive Director of the Don Bosco Development Centre, the Principal of St. Anthony's College, Mankuliya, the Child Rights Promotion Officer of the Divisional Secretariat, Negombo, from the Women and Children's Bureau of the Negombo Police, Department of Probation and Child Care Service officers in Negombo, and Don Bosco Development Centre staff.

අපගේ ප්‍රජාව තුළ දරුවන් ආරක්ෂා කිරීම සහ ඔවුන්ගේ අයිතිවාසිකම් තහවුරු කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් සාකච්ඡා කිරීම සඳහා ප්‍රජාවේ ප්‍රධාන පාර්ශ්වකරුවන් එකම වේදිකාවකට එක් කරමින් දෙවන ළමා අයිතිවාසිකම් ක්‍රියාකාරී කණ්ඩායම් රැස්වීම 2026 සැප්තැම්බර් 2 වන දින මංකුලිය ශාන්ත අන්තෝනි විද්‍යාලයේදී පැවැත්විණි.

මේ සඳහා දොන් බොස්කෝ සංවර්ධන මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ විධායක අධ්‍යක්ෂ පියතුමා, මංකුලිය ශාන්ත අන්තෝනි විද්‍යාලයේ විදුහල්පතිතුමිය, මීගමුව ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ ළමා අයිතිවාසිකම් ප්‍රවර්ධන නිලධාරී, මීගමුව පොලිස් ස්ථානයේ කාන්තා හා ළමා කාර්යාංශයේ කාන්තා පොලිස් නිලධාරිතුමියන්, මීගමුව පරිවාස හා ළමා ආරක්ෂක සේවා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවේ නිලධාරීතුමියන් සහ දොන් බොස්කෝ සංවර්ධන මධ්‍යස්ථානයේ කාර්ය මණ්ඩල සාමාජිකයින් සහභාගී වූහ.

දොන් බොස්කෝ සංවර්ධන මධ්‍යස්ථානය විසින් පාසල්, පවුල්, රාජ්‍ය ආයතන, ප්‍රජා නායකයින්, දෙමාපියන් සහ ප්‍රදේශයේ අනෙකුත් පාර්ශ්වකරුවන් සමඟ එක්ව ක්‍රියාකාරී වැඩපිළිවෙලක් වෙත යොමු වීමේ වැදගත්කම මෙහිදී අවධාරණය කරන ලදී. දරුවන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව සහ සංවර්ධනය යනු එක් ආයතනයකට පමණක් සීමා වූ වගකීමක් නොවන අතර, සමස්ත ප්‍රජාවම එකට එක්ව දරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් කටයුතු කළ යුතු බව ද සාකච්ඡා කරන ලදී..

මෙහිදී මූලිකවම සයිබර් හිරිහැර වැළැක්වීම සහ අන්තර්ජාල ආරක්ෂාව, සතුටු පවුල සංකල්පය, වෘත්තීය මාර්ගෝපදේශනය සහ මත්ද්‍රව්‍ය වැළැක්වීම පිළිබඳව දරුවන් දැනුවත් කිරීමේ අවශ්‍යතාව සාකච්ඡා කරන ලදී. මෙම සහයෝගීතාවය තුළින් දරුවන්ට ආරක්ෂිත, සුරක්ෂිත, සතුටුදායක සහ ඔවුන්ගේ හැකියාවන් වර්ධනය කරගත හැකි පරිසරයක් නිර්මාණය කිරීම මෙහි ප්‍රධාන අරමුණ වේ.

From Restoration to a Successful Harvest!

Following the devastation caused by Cyclone Ditwah, Don Bosco Development Centre supported the restoration of the affected paddy fields in the Neelabemma farming community 750,000 kg (750 MT) of organic fertilizer was distributed to support paddy cultivation and promote sustainable agriculture.

According to our Paddy Harvest Survey, we are proud to share that the restored fields achieved an impressive yield of 8 MT per hectare, exceeding both the national average and the project's expected target of 5 MT per hectare

අභියෝග මැදින් සාර්ථක අස්වැන්නක් කරා!

දොන් බොස්කෝ සංවර්ධන මධ්‍යස්ථානය විසින් කාබනික පොහොර කිලෝග්‍රෑම් 750,000ක් බෙදා දෙමින්, දිට්වා සුළි කුණාටුවෙන් බලපෑමට ලක් වූ නීලබැම්ම ගොවි ව්‍යාපාරයේ ගොවි ප්‍රජාවගේ ජීවනෝපායන් නැවත ගොඩනැඟීමට සහ තිරසාර කෘෂිකර්මාන්තය ප්‍රවර්ධනය කිරීමට දායක විය.
මෙම සහයෝගීතාවයේ සාර්ථක ප්‍රතිඵලයක් ලෙස, ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කරන ලද කුඹුරු වල වී අස්වනු නෙළීම සනිටුහන් කරමින් සමාරම්භක උත්සවය පැවැත්විණි.
ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණය කරන ලද කුඹුරු වලින් හෙක්ටයාරයකට මෙට්‍රික් ටොන් 8ක වී අස්වැන්නක් ලබාගෙන ඇති අතර, එය සාමාන්‍ය අස්වැන්න සහ අපේක්ෂිත අස්වැන්න යන දෙකම ඉක්මවා යන විශිෂ්ට ප්‍රතිඵලයකි.

මෙම සහන හා ප්‍රතිසාධන කටයුතු සඳහා සහයෝගය ලබා දුන් සියලුම Salesian පරිත්‍යාගශීලීන්ට මෙන්ම Deutsche Bank , Global Care යන ආයතනයටද අපගේ හෘදයාංගම ස්තූතිය පුද කරමු.

RISE & ROOT

Children Rise Through Strong Educational Roots, Women Root Their Families Through Collaborative Effort

The RISE & ROOT Project was officially launched in June 2026 by the Don Bosco Development Centre (DBDC) in Palliyawatta with the aim of strengthening early childhood education and empowering vulnerable families within the local fishing community. The project focuses on creating a safe and inclusive learning environment for preschool children while improving the socio-economic wellbeing of women through sustainable livelihood opportunities, positive parenting, and family strengthening initiatives.

Kindergarten renovation commenced in July 2026 to create a safe, child-friendly, and stimulating learning environment for preschool children. Under the supervision of the project team, renovation work is progressing well. Structural reinforcement, preparatory work, roof material procurement, and recreational area improvements have already been completed. The remaining renovation work is expected to be completed within the next three months.

දොන් බොස්කෝ ව්‍යාපෘති සැලසුම් අංශය මගින් RISE & ROOT ව්‍යාපෘතිය 2026 ජූනි මාසයේදී පල්ලියවත්තේ දී ආරම්භ කරන ලදී. එහි අරමුණ වන්නේ ප්‍රාදේශීය ධීවර ප්‍රජාව තුළ මූලික ළමා අධ්‍යාපනය ශක්තිමත් කිරීම සහ අවදානමට ලක්විය හැකි පවුල් සවිබල ගැන්වීමයි. පෙර පාසල් දරුවන් වෙනුවෙන් ආරක්ෂිත හා සියලු පහසුකම් ඇතුළත් වන උත්තේජක ඉගෙනුම් පරිසරයක් නිර්මාණය කිරීම මෙන්ම, තිරසාර ජීවනෝපාය අවස්ථා පවුල් ඒකක ශක්තිමත් කිරීමේ වැඩසටහන් තුළින් කාන්තාවන්ගේ සමාජ ආර්ථික යහපැවැත්ම වර්ධනය කිරීම කෙරෙහි මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය අවධානය යොමු කරයි. ව්‍යාපෘති කණ්ඩායමේ අධීක්ෂණය යටතේ, ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කටයුතු ඉදිරියට ගමන් කරමින් පවතී. ඉතිරි ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ කටයුතු ඉදිරි මාස තුනක් තුළ අවසන් කිරීමට අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ.

☀️🌿𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙨: 𝘼 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣🌿☀️

On 13th November 2025, Don Bosco Development Center signed an agreement with Hayleys Fentons Limited for a 120kW PV solar power system at 𝗗𝗼𝗻 𝗕𝗼𝘀𝗰𝗼 𝗖𝗵𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗸𝗮, 𝗞𝘂𝗿𝘂𝘄𝗶𝗹𝗮–𝗔𝗵𝘂𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮, under the project titled “𝙎𝙤𝙡𝙖𝙧 𝙎𝙩𝙚𝙥𝙨: 𝘼 𝙎𝙪𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙞𝙣𝙖𝙗𝙡𝙚 𝙁𝙪𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚 𝙛𝙤𝙧 𝙁𝙤𝙧𝙢𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣.” With this new installation, the Don Bosco institutions now collectively operate 989kW of solar power capacity, reflecting our continued commitment to sustainable energy and long-term income generation.
This project also highlights the ongoing and continuous support of Don Bosco Mondo Germany, towards strengthening the financial sustainability initiatives of the Salesian Mission in Sri Lanka.

The agreement was signed by Rev. Fr. Roshan Miranda SDB (Provincial Superior) and Rev. Fr. Viraj Chamara SDB (Executive Director, DBDC) on behalf of the Don Bosco Trust, while Mr. Roshane Perera (Executive Director), Mr. Pamudith Gunawardana (Executive Director & Chief Financial Officer), and Mr. Sampath Pinto (Manager – Experience Centre, Hayleys Solar) represented Hayleys Fentons Limited. This renewed commitment further reinforces our shared dedication to sustainable progress.

🏅 Don Bosco Inter Sports Meet 2025 🏅

The first-ever Don Bosco Inter Sports Meet was successfully held on 7th October 2025 at the Don Bosco Provincial House Grounds, Dungalpitiya, with the enthusiastic participation of over 500 schoolchildren from five neighboring schools. The event was a vibrant celebration of sportsmanship, teamwork, and youthful energy, reflecting the Don Bosco spirit of holistic education. 🌟

The ceremony commenced at 1:00 p.m. with a colorful march past, followed by thrilling track events, cultural dance performances, karate demonstrations, and gymnastics displays organized by each participating school.

📘 Don Bosco Student Parliament

The 2nd Session of the Don Bosco Parliament was held on 30th September 2025 with the active participation of student leaders, educators, and government officials. The session provided an excellent platform for reviewing progress, sharing insights, and planning future initiatives.

During the proceedings, each ministry presented a comprehensive review of its activities and achievements since the previous meeting, along with ten key suggestions aimed at strengthening implementation strategies in the coming months. Government representatives commended the students’ dedication and provided constructive feedback and practical recommendations to further enhance their initiatives.

The session fostered a spirit of leadership, accountability, and collaboration, encouraging students to engage in open discussion, collective decision-making, and strategic planning to promote meaningful community development.

🤝 MoU Signed with Hayleys Fentons Limited!

On October 28, 2025, Don Bosco Development Center, Negombo signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hayleys Fentons Limited for collaboration on internship and training programmes.

Rev. Fr. Roshan Miranda SDB (Provincial Superior) and Rev. Fr. Viraj Chamara SDB (Executive Director ) signed on behalf of Don Bosco, while Mr. Hasith Prematillake (Managing Director ) and Ms. Roshane Perera (Executive Director) signed for Hayleys Fentons Limited. Mr. Sampath Pinto (Manager - Experience Centre) represented Hayleys Fentons Limited at the signing.

This partnership will provide students with hands-on industry experience, enhancing their technical skills and employability with the guidance of Hayleys Fentons’ expert personnel.
