Cheshire Home- Mount Lavinia A home for the care, nursing & well being of the permanently disabled, regardless of creed or race. www.cheshirelanka.org

The Cheshire Homes care for the severely and permanently handicapped, for those whom hospitals can do nothing further. They are run as homes and offer the affection and freedom of ordinary family life, the Residents being encouraged to take whatever part they can in the day-to-day running of the house and to develop their residual talents. Disabled people are admitted according to need, irres

pective of race, creed or social status. The Sir James and Lady Peiris Cheshire Home is situated at 17, Siripala Road, Mount Lavinia, Sri Lanka. The building is the property of the Sir James and Lady Peiris Trust and has been made available to the National Council of Sri Lanka to be run as a Cheshire Home. The late Sir James and Lady Peiris were pioneers of the Social Service Movement in Ceylon. The Home was established in January 1966 and formally declared open on the 19th March 1966 by the late Group Captain Lord Cheshire, the Founder of the Cheshire Homes. In this Home for the Differently Abled, there are both the not so young and the old residents, male and female. The Government provides an annual per capita grant , but since this meets only a fraction of the expenses in the Home’s needs, as in the past, mainly depend on support and encouragement received from many Friends and Well-wishers.
