In an inspiring effort to promote sustainable and toxin-free agriculture, the EMACE Foundation of Sri Lanka, with the Agrarian Service Center, Pamunugama, launched the “A Toxin-Free Lush Garden” initiative in March 2024 to empower communities through sustainable organic farming. By June, 36 farmers had received plants and financial support. Following monthly monitoring by agricultural officers and EMACE staff, 13 farmers were recognized for outstanding progress after a competitive selection process.
On December 20th, 2024, an Award Ceremony celebrated the project’s success. This celebration brought together the farmers, agrarian officers, and supporters who made the initiative a success. The event was filled with inspiring moments. Farmers shared their heartfelt success stories.
The Government officials and the Agrarian department officers were also recognized for their invaluable contributions, emphasizing the critical role they played in guiding the farmers throughout the project. Chief Guest Ms. Anoka Primrose Abeyratne, FRSA emphasised the initiative's significant contributions to both environmental sustainability and women's empowerment, underscoring its positive impact on both the economy and the environment
Supported by Global Nature Fund (GNF) under the International Climate Initiative (IKI), and completed with the guidance of Living Lakes Network, this initiative demonstrated the transformative power of collaboration, paving the way for a greener, toxin-free future.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the farmers, agrarian officers, community members, and partners who made this vision a reality. Together, we sowed the seeds for a healthier, more sustainable tomorrow.
