We would like to CONGRATULATE MR. CHAMARA MENDIS, past pupil of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa, on obtaining CHESS COLOURS for the year 2025, from the Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology (SLIIT).
He was also awarded with the award of BEST CHESS PLAYER at the same Colours Night.
He obtained CHESS COLOURS in 2022, 2023 and 2024 too.
He is from the Batch of 2020 and is currently a 4th year Mechanical Engineering undergraduate at SLIIT.
He represented the College in Chess and has won many tournaments for the College.
Chamara was the CHESS CHAMPION at the SLIIT Inter Faculty Sports Meet - 2023 and has won many tournaments representing SLIIT.
The SLIIT team were placed CHAMPIONS in the 2nd Clash of Knights, being the 1st Runners Up at the 1st edition. They were also placed 1st Runners Up in the 8th SLIIT CASTLEFEST Rapid and Blitz events and 2nd Runners Up in the Sabra Team Championship.
He was appointed as the CAPTAIN of the SLIIT Chess team in 2025, whereas he served as the VICE CAPTAIN in 2023 and 2024.
He is the BROTHER of CHANDEEPA MENDIS SIR, also a past pupil of St. Sebastian’s College, Moratuwa and who is teaching Combined Mathematics in the Advanced Level classes of the College, whilst also serving as the MASTER-IN-CHARGE of Chess, with a service of 4 years, since 2022.
Whilst congratulating Chamara again and appreciating all his hard work, dedication and commitment, we would like to wish him an abundance of all the strength, courage and guidance of our LORD Almighty, to fulfill all his dreams and ambitions in life and also to be successful in all his future endeavours.
