RCM Avurudu Ulela
The Rotary Club of Moratuwa marked Avurudu Ulela 2026 with a lively and engaging celebration that brought together members and their families in a spirit of joy and togetherness. The event blended tradition with a fresh perspective, creating an atmosphere where cultural heritage and fellowship thrived side by side.

Attendees took part in a range of traditional Avurudu games, sparking laughter, friendly rivalry, and meaningful interaction.

The celebration provided a welcome opportunity for members to reconnect beyond formal settings and enjoy the festive season in a relaxed environment.

District Governor Mr. Delvin Pereira and First Lady Rtn. Lucille Pereira graced the occasion, adding distinction to the gathering.

A standout feature of the event was its thoughtfully planned indoor setting, introduced by President Dr. Heather Fernando and Secretary & President-Elect Melanga de Silva. By hosting the festivities in an air conditioned venue, the organizers ensured comfort without compromising the authenticity of the Avurudu experience.

Complemented by music, dance, and shared meals, the celebration strengthened bonds within the Rotary family and concluded on a high note, leaving everyone with cherished memories.

RCM International Women's Day Celebration
The Rotary Club of Moratuwa marked International Women’s Day with a meaningful Peace Building Project dedicated to honoring the invaluable contributions of the RCM Anns. This initiative not only celebrated the women who support and strengthen Rotary’s mission, but also aligned with the global spirit of the day recognizing women’s achievements, advocating for gender equality, and fostering inclusive societies.

International Women’s Day traces its origins to the early 20th century, emerging from labor movements in North America and Europe. It was formally proposed in 1910 by Clara Zetkin at the International Socialist Women’s Conference, with the aim of promoting equal rights for women, including the right to vote and work. Over time, it evolved into a worldwide celebration, and in 1975 it was officially recognized by the United Nations, further strengthening its role as a platform for advancing gender equality, empowerment, and social justice.

Today, International Women’s Day stands as a powerful reminder of both the progress made and the work still required to ensure equal opportunities for women everywhere.
In this context, the Rotary Club of Moratuwa made initiatives to build better relations and boost peace & harmoney that is absence of violence.

By recognizing the Anns as key stakeholders, the project emphasized their vital role in fostering harmony, unity, and continuity within the Rotary family. It acknowledged that behind every successful community effort, there are women whose dedication, emotional intelligence, and quiet leadership sustain meaningful change.

The event also highlighted the concept of positive peace
not merely the absence of conflict, but the presence of mutual respect, understanding, trust, and psychological wellbeing.

Through shared reflections, heartfelt appreciation, and collaborative engagement, the program created a space where women felt valued and empowered, reinforcing their sense of belonging within the Rotary movement.

Ultimately, this celebration went beyond a ceremonial observance. It became a reaffirmation of Rotary’s commitment to gender inclusivity, respect, and empowerment.

By honoring women on such a globally significant day, the Rotary Club of Moratuwa strengthened its vision of building resilient relationships and nurturing a peaceful, compassionate, and empowered community for all.

🌍 World Polio Day Message

As we commemorate World Polio Day, let us take a moment to appreciate the tireless efforts of our nation’s health authorities, who deserve the highest commendation for making Sri Lanka the first country in the region to be declared free of polio.

As Rotarians, we take pride in our enduring partnership in this noble cause — a partnership that has saved millions of lives and given hope to countless children across the world.

Yet, even as we celebrate this achievement, let us remind ourselves that every child still at risk anywhere in the world places all children everywhere at risk. Our mission is therefore not complete until the very last case of polio is eradicated.

Let us continue our united fight to end polio forever, making it only the second disease after smallpox to be completely wiped from the face of the earth.
