Check this out!! 🧐

We found this handsome chap outside the temple where Black Beauty lives.

He was covered in ticks so we gave him an Easecto treatment.

16 hours later when we came to give Black Beauty her medication we saw him again.

SMELLY NELLY update.

We trusted a local lady with Nelly's antibiotics and have since found out she hasn't
been giving them..

We also struggle to find her..
We were fast approaching Sinhala New Year and fire crackers were being thrown around the streets during the day and night.

We've seen a lot of misplaced dogs running scared and we were thinking Nelly may be one of them.

So... we've been worried.
πŸ₯Ί She's had no antibiotics.
πŸ₯Ί She's at risk of that wound getting infected.
πŸ₯Ί She could get more maggots which puts her life at risk.
πŸ₯Ί...aaand we just can't find her.

It's a bit of a trek for me to go to her location and we are all struggling with the heat.
Fortunately, Jenny and her husband Ishan live closer so had been going regularly to keep checking for her.

The local community have been a little bit hit and miss.. Sometimes they are willing to help find her and other times totally disinterested..

After 4 days of searching Jenny and Ishan found her.. wound checked and thank goodness it is healing and looking ok!

She's never happy to see us.. (check out her face on the photos!😳)...if only we could explain to her in words how lucky she was to have that wound sorted! 🩷

Now we can all relax a little.. her wound photo has had a big πŸ‘πŸ» from a vet! πŸ™πŸ»πŸ™πŸ»

Zoe Mitchell thank you so much for your donation to cover the costs of her vet visit and treatment 🩷

CHOCO and CRISP are getting more active! 🩷

We are still support feeding
Choco, Crisp, Peanut, Molly, Millie, Maya, Turbo and Tumble at Rameshs' Grandmas house and street.

Today Ramesh came with me as he will continue supporting them and Grandma as I leave Sri Lanka in just over a week.

Thought you might like to see this little video from yesterday πŸ₯°

I'm so pleased we found this boy on our dog feeding day.

He was sleeping in the doorway of a home directly on the roadside. Myself and Ramesh in the tuk tuk passed him unseen... and so did Rosie on her scooter.
Then we heard beep beep beep coming from Ishans scooter as he and Jenny fortunately spotted him.

His skin must be sooooo irritable and sore. πŸ₯Ή

He has had an Easecto.. did you know just one of these incredible miracle tablets actually treats 4 dogs!!!!

We have a supply donated by Worldwide Veterinary Service - WVS but our stock is running low..
I hope and pray we can secure some more as treating dogs with skin issues is a MASSIVE and wholly satisfying part of our job role here in Sri Lanka.

It can change a dogs life forever! These dogs transform into much happier dogs instead of living a life of misery.. itching and irritable.

And.. it changes the relationship between the people in the local community and the dog for the better.

Just ONE QUARTER of this miracle tablet can literally do all of this!!

It really is a life saver and a life changer!

If you have any Easecto or Bravecto laying around the house I will happily take it and treat a streetie for you!

We often go do what we now call an 'Easecto run' .. seeking out the mangey dogs that need some care πŸ₯°

I'm struggling a bit right now.. thinking of the street dogs πŸ₯Ή

There have been fire crackers set off at set times throughout the day.. now into the evening they are randomly set off.

The first set this morning sounded like a huge thunder storm. The bats even came out of the trees.

We checked a young puppy with a suspected urinary tract infection this morning. The next set of fire crackers went off and she was so frightened she bolted along the beach.
Fortunately her guardian raced after her and someone managed to catch her some distance away.

The roads are quiet and the infrequent vehicles are travelling faster than usual. I saw very few dogs.. just a couple terrified running along the roadside.

Shadow is in my room, Pirate I have checked on.. he's on the neighbours stairs and I cant find Nancy.

The dogs are going to be displaced for sure which is going to cause huge issues over the next few days.
Social groups will be mixed up.. dogs potentially lost and unable to find their way back to their area.
. and I feel so helpless. πŸ₯Ή

Our house dogs at home have a tough time on NYE and Bonfire night.. the street dogs have it really tough right now.

I'm a bit apprehensive about tomorrow.. hoping everyone runs out of fire crackers and it is a little quieter.

Rosie went to check on Islay and fed her.. she seemed ok which is good news.

Today is New Years Day in Sri Lanka. To everyone following in Sri Lanka..
HaPPy NEw YeAR!! πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰πŸŽ‰

It's my first New Year in Sri Lanka and there are loud fire crackers going off all during the day and the night.

It's really concerning for the dogs as I've already seen many looking terrified.
Some will run and hide, others will run and run.. become displaced and then encounter conflict with other dogs.
Some will dart out onto the roads and also be in danger.

It's soooo worrying for the street dogs but for now there's nothing I can do... Which makes me feel a little sad.

Shadow has been in my room with me and can also go shelter in her guardians home next door.. tbf she is pretty chill with the noise!
Pirate has popped in for water and cookies and looks a little unsettled.
I hope the other dogs find shelter and a safe space as the celebrations continue.

In the meantime Rosie and I have some dog checks to do this morning and then we have been in invited to Rameshs' friends home for lunch.

Here's the rest of Jenny's amazing photos from dog feeding run day! 🩷

Our Sinhala New Year gift to the Street Dogs! 🩷
We estimate 60 dogs had a tasty meal yesterday!

Sanda (known as the cooking lady!), her husband and Ramesh were busy chopping and cooking all morning. Ramesh also collected banana leaves to serve the meals on.

230pm we loaded up 4 huge bowls of food into R's tuk tuk and travelled 20 minutes to meet Rosie, Jenny and Ishan.. and off we went around the back streets of Matara town.

It was still hot at 3pm but as time ticked by more and more dogs came out from sheltering in the shade.

When we have several dogs in one place we need to coordinate the placing of the food so we don't end up with scuffles!

We found some dogs in need of skin treatments.. one desperately in need who had nearly no hair and a couple covered in ticks.

We took our little dog care books out to gift to some children and lots of water for the dogs too!

Jenny kindly captured some amazing photos and videos to share with you! Will post more tomorrow 🐢🩷

When the last meal was delivered we all went for a celebratory juice by the seafront..

Thank you Holly Jarrad Sue Wallis Andrea Hughes Eddie Reid Nat Dowsland Zoe Mitchell and anon 🩷 for sponsoring this amazing and worthwhile day.

(More videos in the comments)

Our next one is scheduled for Sunday 19th April.. can't wait!

Rosie and I have been doing daily checks on the dogs (and cat who thinks she's a dog!) at Rameshs' Grandmas' house.

🐢 TURBO - our Border Collie kinda looking friend.. AKA the bulldozer He's a lovable rogue!

🐢🐢 MAYA and MILLIE - our two litter sisters who have now been neutered and fully vaccinated.

🐢 MOLLY - M&Ms mumma

🐢 PEANUT - mumma to the two tiny pups in Grandma's back of the house out building.

🐢 CHOCO - Peanuts son
🐢 CRISP - Peanuts daughter

🐱 TUMBLE - The cat dog.. never have I met a cat that is so.. well.. like a dog!

Now that's a lot of mouths to feed.. and it took some working out on how to do it without TURBO inhaling the whole stash of food before the others got a look in.. 🀷🏻

πŸ™†πŸ» It was a 3 man job, we've got it down to a 2 man job and created some calm around meal times..

Dogs being dogs they hang out where they can get the stuff that's important to them and this little family have..

πŸ’¦ Water from the water butt leak.
🌞 Shelter in the garden and porch area.
πŸ›Ί A safe space as the garden is down some steps and secluded away from the road.
πŸ˜‹πŸ₯˜..and food.. occasionally.. as Ramesh has already said that Grandma doesn't always have spare food to give.

Grandma is quite elderly and still works every day. πŸ₯Ή

The dogs are street dogs, not her dogs..but they choose to hang out around her home.. and she's kind enough to let them.. 🩷

We will continue to support feed them for now but need to think up a long term plan for this little family.. πŸ€”

Ramesh and I went out this morning in his tuk tuk for our shopping to prepare for our dog feeding run tomorrow..

Thank you Holly Jarrad Eddie Reid Nat Dowsland Andrea Hughes Sue Wallis and anon donater 🩷 for making this possible! πŸ™πŸ»

Our shopping trip:
🐢1,100lkr (£2.60) for our fresh vegetables and herbs
🐢1,500lkr (£3.55) for dried sprats, garlic, lentils and potatoes
🐢2,150lkr (£5.08) for fresh fish
🐢 1,100lkr (£2.60) for dried fish
🐢,2,280lkr (£5.39) for 10kg of rice AND a small smoothie that Ramesh sneaked in at the checkout!
= 8,030lkr (Β£18.98)

I always joke with Ramesh that if we stop at a shop he's like a child that sneaks something amongst your shopping at the till hoping you don't notice and pay for it 🀣🀣..

AHH well.. he kindly whisked me round all of the local places to source our food for tomorrow and we have just dropped it all off at our 'Cooking ladies' house. 🩷

Now I'm off to hide from the heat for a while... πŸ₯΅
