🌱 From Farmer to Local Knowledge Leader: Sharing Vermicompost Skills Across Communities
What happens when farmers become knowledge leaders within their own communities?
On 6 August 2026, innovative farmers in Manthai West participated in a practical learning session on vermicompost preparation and management, led by Mrs. Rajeetha Selvaruban, bio-input producer from Iranaiiluppakulam, Madhu, Mannar.
Rajeetha brings valuable practical experience in organic input production. Her expertise in vermicompost preparation was recognised when she won Second Place in a Vermicompost Preparation competition conducted by the Jaffna Science Association.
During the session, Rajeetha shared her practical knowledge and experience with innovative farmers from Manthai West through peer-to-peer learning and hands-on demonstrations. Participants learned how locally available organic materials can be used to prepare vermicompost and explored practical approaches to its preparation and management.
The session was more than a training activity. It created an opportunity for knowledge to move from one farming community to another, while recognizing and promoting the important role of women as knowledge holders and resource persons in agriculture.
By connecting experienced producers like Rajeetha with innovative farmer from another community, OPEnE is helping strengthen local capacity for bio-input production, peer learning, and sustainable agricultural practices.
This approach also creates opportunities for experienced farmers to share their knowledge with others, encouraging locally led learning and strengthening connections between farming communities.
When local farmers share knowledge, good practices can travel from one community to another.

விவசாயியிலிருந்து சமூக அறிவுப் பகிர்வாளராக – சமூகங்களுக்கிடையே மண்புழு உரம் தயாரிப்பு அறிவுப் பகிர்வு
ஒரு விவசாயி தனது அனுபவத்தையும் அறிவையும் மற்ற விவசாயிகளுடன் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ளும்போது, அது ஒரு சமூகத்திலிருந்து மற்றொரு சமூகத்திற்கு பயனுள்ள அறிவு சென்றடைய வழிவகுக்கிறது.
2026 ஆகஸ்ட் 6ஆம் திகதி, மாந்தை மேற்கு பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த விவசாயிகள், மண்புழு உரம் தயாரித்தல் மற்றும் அதன் பராமரிப்பு தொடர்பான நடைமுறை கற்றல் நிகழ்வொன்றில் பங்கேற்றனர்.
இந்தக் கற்றல் நிகழ்வை மன்னார், மடு, இரணைஇலுப்பைக்குளத்தைச் சேர்ந்த திருமதி ரஜீதா செல்வரூபன் அவர்கள் வழிநடத்தினார். இவர் ஒரு விவசாயியும், உயிரியல் உள்ளீடுகளை தயாரிக்கும் உற்பத்தியாளரும் ஆவார்.
இயற்கை விவசாய உள்ளீடுகளைத் தயாரிப்பதில் ரஜீதாவுக்கு நடைமுறை அனுபவம் உள்ளது. மண்புழு உரம் தயாரிப்பில் அவருடைய திறமை, யாழ்ப்பாண விஞ்ஞானச் சங்கம் நடத்திய மண்புழு உரம் தயாரிக்கும் போட்டியில் இரண்டாம் இடத்தைப் பெற்றதன் மூலம் அங்கீகரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது.
இந் நிகழ்வின்போது, ரஜீதா தனது நடைமுறை அறிவையும் அனுபவத்தையும் மாந்தை மேற்கு பகுதியைச் சேர்ந்த விவசாயிகளுடன் பகிர்ந்துகொண்டார். விவசாயிக்கு விவசாயி கற்றல் முறையிலும், நேரடி செய்முறை விளக்கங்களின் மூலமும், மண்புழு உரம் தயாரித்தல் மற்றும் பராமரித்தல் தொடர்பான அறிவைப் பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் பெற்றுக்கொண்டனர்.
உள்ளூரில் கிடைக்கக்கூடிய இயற்கைப் பொருட்களைப் பயன்படுத்தி மண்புழு உரத்தை எவ்வாறு தயாரிக்கலாம் என்பதையும், அதனை முறையாகப் பராமரிப்பதற்கான நடைமுறை வழிமுறைகளையும் பங்கேற்பாளர்கள் கற்றுக்கொண்டனர்.
இந்த நிகழ்வு ஒரு பயிற்சி நிகழ்வாக மட்டுமல்லாமல், ஒரு விவசாய சமூகத்திலிருந்து மற்றொரு விவசாய சமூகத்திற்கு அறிவும் அனுபவமும் பகிரப்படுவதற்கான ஒரு வாய்ப்பாகவும் அமைந்தது. அதேவேளை, விவசாயத் துறையில் பெண்கள் அறிவைப் பகிர்ந்து கொள்பவர்களாகவும், மற்ற விவசாயிகளுக்கு வழிகாட்டக்கூடிய வள நபர்களாகவும் செயல்படுவதன் முக்கியத்துவத்தையும் இது எடுத்துக்காட்டுகிறது.
ரஜீதா போன்ற அனுபவமிக்க உற்பத்தியாளர்களையும் மற்ற முன்னோடி விவசாயிகளையும் இணைப்பதன் மூலம், உள்ளூர் அளவில் உயிரியல் விவசாய உள்ளீடுகளைத் தயாரித்தல், விவசாயிகளுக்கிடையிலான அறிவுப் பகிர்வு மற்றும் நிலையான விவசாய நடைமுறைகள் ஆகியவற்றை OPEnE ஆதரித்து வருகிறது.
இத்தகைய அணுகுமுறைகள் அனுபவமிக்க விவசாயிகள் தங்களுடைய அறிவை மற்றவர்களுடன் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ளவும், உள்ளூர் விவசாயிகளால் முன்னெடுக்கப்படும் கற்றலை ஊக்குவிக்கவும், பல்வேறு விவசாய சமூகங்களுக்கிடையிலான தொடர்புகளை வலுப்படுத்தவும் உதவுகின்றன.
🌱 விவசாயிகள் தங்களுடைய அறிவைப் பகிர்ந்துகொள்ளும்போது, நல்ல விவசாய நடைமுறைகளும் ஒரு சமூகத்திலிருந்து மற்றொரு சமூகத்திற்குப் பயணிக்கின்றன.
