The volunteers of the ZeroPlastic Sabaragamuwa Community carried out a heartfelt Mother’s Day initiative titled “සෙනෙහසේ රැකවරණ”, dedicated to appreciating the incredible women security guards and police officers who continue to serve society while sacrificing precious time with their own families.

As part of this meaningful initiative, volunteers visited women security staff within the university premises as well as the lady police officers of the Samanalawewa Police Station, Belihuloya, expressing gratitude for their dedication, strength, and commitment to protecting the community.

Small flower plants and handwritten appreciation notes were presented as symbols of care, growth, and appreciation. These heartfelt gestures created emotional connections between students and the women who work tirelessly behind the scenes to ensure safety and discipline every day.

Before entered our homes, Sri Lanka already had a .

The coconut tree was our “Tree of Life.”

Leaves became shelters.

Coconut was part of daily meals.

Shells became bowls, cutlery, jewelry, and everyday tools.

Nothing was wasted. Everything had purpose.

Plastic didn’t only nature — it slowly erased , local wisdom, and the sustainable lifestyle our people once lived.

Through Impact Center By ZeroPlastic this culture is now being shared with the world again.

Tourists and local craftsmen working together on a simple coconut shell is more than an activity — it is a reminder of the life we had before plastic invasion.

So far, more than 1000 travelers have experienced this zero plastic mindset and the culture Sri Lanka once proudly lived by.

By the end of the year 2026, the impact numbers will speak for themselves. 🇱🇰

A coconut shell once thrown away became a beautiful handcrafted bowl in the hands of travelers visiting the Impact Center.

While shaping and polishing the shell, many discovered a simple truth — nature already provides alternatives to many plastic products we use every day.

A new milestone was reached this morning at the tuktukrental.com (Sri Lanka & Cambodia) office, where a strategic agreement was signed between ZeroPlastic Movement (ZPM) and Tuktuk Rental (TTR), together with Wietse Sennema and officials representing both organizations.

Tuktuk Rental, recognized as Sri Lanka’s largest tuk-tuk rental service for travelers, serves more than 20,000 travelers annually.

Through this partnership, over 95% of TTR travelers will now be connected to the Impact Center By ZeroPlastic in Sigiriya — creating a unique opportunity to combine sustainable , education, and community .

Visitors will experience authentic Sri Lankan , engage with local , and support curated from more than 100 local craftsmen across the country.

Beyond crafts, the partnership is designed to drive environmental action throughout the traveler journey.

Plastic bottles collected during trips will be handed over at designated collection points, while travelers will also be encouraged to reusable bottles, participate in hands-on craft experiences, and learn about in Sri Lanka and how such plastics can be avoided during travel.

Special thanks to Natalie Samarasinghe for the continuous support extended toward making this collaboration possible.

Today, We felt truly proud. ❤️

We never asked our youth to create flyers, videos, or campaigns for special days.
But look at what they created for Mother’s Day.

The script — they wrote it.
The location — they found it.
The filming — they did it themselves.
The editing — they completed with passion and creativity.

This is what ZeroPlastic Movement is becoming.

Not just an environmental movement.
Not just a campaign against plastic pollution.

ZeroPlastic is becoming a platform for future , future , and future generations to grow with love and respect for Mother Earth.

Happy Mothers Day 💚
