Partner Progress Review Meeting & Capacity Building

The YouLEAP – Youth-led Initiatives for Prosperity project successfully concluded its Partner Progress Review Meeting and Capacity Building Sessions with our four dynamic partners: CDC, AHAM, RPDF, and Kaviya, who are actively engaged in Matara, Trincomalee, Anuradhapura, and Batticaloa.

The meeting provided a valuable platform for partners to present their progress, discuss challenges, and shape strategies for the year ahead. Insightful conversations focused on sustaining impact through social enterprises, cooperatives, and Business Incubator Centers operating across the four districts.

Youth representatives from the social enterprises and cooperatives shared inspiring stories of growth and enthusiasm, reflecting the true spirit of youth-led community empowerment.

To strengthen our collective efforts, Helvetas also held focused discussions on financial accountability, effective communication, and monitoring and evaluation.

Helvetas successfully conducted transformative, hands-on training on modern beekeeping techniques in Medawachchiya, led by Dr. Anura Indrajith from the University of Rajarata. This practical session introduced to the community of the area, many of whom were experiencing beekeeping for the very first time. The training focused on scientific methods of managing bee colonies and safe techniques to transfer bees from traditional clay pots and bee boxes and the importance and use of protective gear, ensuring both safety and confidence in handling bees. What made this session truly inspiring was the energy and enthusiasm of the women and girls who joined, eager to build new skills and explore sustainable livelihood options. At the end of the training, each participant received very own bee box, as the first step toward self-employment and financial independence. This was more than just training. It was a meaningful journey toward empowerment, resilience, and sustainable income generation for the community of Medawachchiya.

Business Continuity Workshop Day 02

Day 2 of the Business Continuity Workshop focused on identifying the root causes of challenges faced by our subgrantee partners and brainstorming ways in which public stakeholders and like-minded organizations can support these partners. In the latter part of the day, the partners, public stakeholders, and like-minded organizations developed a collaboration framework to complement each other’s work. This framework will empower our partners to continue their project activities effectively and meaningfully, while focusing on sustaining outcomes in the long run.

The workshop was a success thanks to the participation of the Small Enterprises Development Division, National Enterprise Development Authority, National Crafts Council, Industrial Development Board, Export Development Board, National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, National Youth Council, Bank of Ceylon, Sarvodaya Shanthi Sena Sansadaya, Sarvodaya Fusion, and Berendina, along with Helvetas Sri Lanka and its partners of the EMPOWER project.

Exciting News from Helvetas Sri Lanka!

Under the EMPOWER project, Helvetas Sri Lanka hosted EMPOWER partners, public institutes responsible for the economic empowerment in Sri Lankan, and the like-minded organizations in a Business Continuity workshop. In the first day (06th) of this two-day workshop, the participants laid the foundation to establish a meaningful platform for collaboration between EMPOWER subgrant partners and key public institutes.

The program will facilitate EMPOWER partner organizations to establish meaningful and long-term strategic partnerships with public institutes, and place these institutes in a key role in their efforts to prevent youth from being vulnerable to violent extremism due to lack of economic opportunities. Small Enterprises Development Division, National Enterprise Development Authority, National Crafts Council, Industrial Development Board, Export Development Board, National Apprentice and Industrial Training Authority, Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission, National Youth Council, Bank of Ceylon, Sarvodaya Shanthi Sena Sansadaya, Sarvodaya Fusion, and Berendina joined with HELVETAS in today's programs. Tomorrow, during the last day of the workshop, these institutes/organizations and our partners will focus on establishing a collaboration framework and a strategic plan to support each other's work.
