A FIGHT FOR HER LIFE — PLEASE KEEP MAMA COW IN YOUR THOUGHTS ❤️🐄
Last week, a pregnant cow in Madiwela was knocked down by a reckless driver. Kotte Animal Welfare was contacted for help last Sunday and we immediately took our vet, Dr. Nilusha, to where the cow was kept.
Upon examination, Dr. Nilusha discovered that the calf had already died inside the mother's womb. The fetus needed to be delivered to relieve the mama cow and allow us to properly assess her injuries. At that point, she was unable to stand and her hind leg appeared to be injured.
Unfortunately, her cervix had not opened, making it impossible for Dr. Nilusha to deliver the fetus. An injection was administered to help induce labour.
On Monday, Dr. Janaka from the Udahamulla Government Veterinary Office visited the cow and administered medication to help open the cervix. We are sincerely grateful to Dr. Janaka for his assistance and support during this difficult time.
However, by Monday evening, the mama cow was still unable to deliver the dead calf. Given her injuries and her inability to strain and push, she desperately needed further assistance.
We once again called Dr. Nilusha, who came to help that evening. After a long and difficult struggle, she finally managed to deliver the deceased calf.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Nilusha for her tireless efforts, dedication, patience and compassion. We are truly grateful for everything she did to help this suffering mama cow. ❤️🙏🏼
Last night, we were finally able to relieve the mama cow. She was given saline and supportive treatment and within just a couple of hours, she began lifting her head and responding to us.
Words cannot describe how relieving it was to see her respond. After everything she has endured, even this small sign of improvement gave us hope.
Today, we will allow her to rest and regain some strength. Tomorrow, we plan to hoist her carefully so that we can properly assess the extent of her injuries.
We sincerely hope there are no major injuries and that this brave cow will be able to stand and walk again.
We know the road to recovery may be long but we will do everything we possibly can to give her a chance at life. She has already been through so much and she deserves every opportunity to heal.
Please keep this precious cow in your thoughts and prayers. We are hoping and praying for better news as we continue to fight for her. 🙏❤️
