Interact Club of Mahanama College was Charted in year 1989 with the Sponsoring Rotary Club of Colombo Down Town. Interact Club of Mahanama College was a very active club since 1990 when they were managed to host one of the major events in Interact calendar the District Interact Assembly in 1990. Samitha De Silva, it was an absolute Interact year to all the Interactors. They organized one Major pro
ject titled "Sware Samadhi”, the project chairman was Int. It was a project, which carried a huge success and a repute of our club to other Interact clubs in Sri Lanka. In the year 1997 -1998 under the Presidentship of Int. Lochana Perera, the club got a major guide to uplift the standard of the club. In the first quarter of his year for the first time from a Interact Club, a three day FM transmission was broadcasted live from Mahanama College named as "Voice Of Interact". The project chairperson was Int. This is one of annual major projects listed in the club calendar. In the same quarter Int. Chamal Dissanayaka organized a Interact get together titled as "Inter Blast". This project was to get all the Interactors and have a fun filled day with loads of fun games. In the year 1998 -1999 when Int. Chamal Dissanayaka was the president of the club. He managed to keep the standard that Int. Lochana Brought up. A wonderful and busy year plan was put forward by the president. It included the “Saarc” cultural pageant, which emphasize the importance of culture. This event was a complete success Complemented by all. The “Inter Challenge” song and dance competition was a co-project with the Interact club of Devi Balika Vidyalaya. The first Interact bulletin “Crossroads” was publish which included all information of our club. 7 Interactors from our school successfully completed the district Interact Leadership Training Programme for the first time in this year. Kasun Amarasinghe took over the Presidentship in the year 1999 - 2000, the club started organizing join projects in major scale. "Intromania" was organized together with the Interact Club of Anula Vidyalaya in 1999. The Co-Project Chairman was Int. Sameera Fernando. This is also another major annual project listed in the calendar of the club. In the third quarter of Kasun aiya’s year Interact Clubs of Nalanda College, Gateway International and St. Bridget's Convent together with our club organized a project called "Cultural Crossroad". It was a cultural festival Int. Imran Habib was the Co-Project Chairman. End of this year Interact Club of Mahanama celebrated their first installation since 1989. In the year 2000 - 2001 Int. Siddique Ahmed took over the club as the president. He was also managed to keep the standard of our great heritage. All annual projects were done in a major scale. As a note to history, the first Interactor from our club Int. Siddique was selected to the Interact District 3220. In his year, Int. Yahon Mendis was awarded as a “Best Interactor of the year” in the Interact Assembly. He was also an organizing committee member of “Interaction 2000”. In the year, 2001 - 2002 Int. Yohan Mendis was the president. This year Int. Yohan was also selected as a District Committee member. He was also accomplished his mission by having all the annual major projects. This year three Interactors from our club were selected to the Interaction Organizing Committee. They are Int. Amila, Int. Imran and Int. Sameera. In the year 2004-2005 Int. Damith De Alwis was the president he accomplished his mission by having all the annual projects. We have been awarded so many times in the district assemblies for completing above projects successfully. When the year of 2006-2007 arrived, Int. Geeshan Wijenayake took over the great challenge to keep all the great work that has been done from past years to keep in that way. This year the annual sports festival “Intro MANIA” and the official Interact radio station “VOI” was completed successfully as annual projects. The club then organized the “16th Interact District Conference” together with the Interact clubs of Muslim Ladies College and Isipathana College. For the first time the club won three citation awards at the District Assembly. Int. Geeshan was awarded as the “Best President”. And the club won the award of citation for the “Best up & coming club” in the year 2006 - 2007. The annual project “VOI” won the award for the “Best International Understanding project”. In the year 2007/2008 under the presidency of Int. Akila Senanayake the club whet on keeping the good work going and the standard of the club was very high. After 3 years, 2 of our Interactors, Int. Budshana Kalapuge & Int. Sumeera Perera attended for the Interact Leadership Training Programme. Moreover, it was proven in the Awards Night where we won 3 citations again. They were, "The Best Club for the year 2007/2008", "VOI" as the "Best Interact Week Project" & Int. Akila won the "DIR recognition for the Best President". In the year 2008/2009 under the presidency of Int. Budshana Kalapuge the Club did a few major projects. Roshantha Perera and Int. Givantha Walihinda attended for the Interact leadership Training Programme. Hashan Sarathchandra was received the merit award for THE BEST INTERACTOR. Also the Interact Club of Mahanama College was awarded as the BEST SPRITED CLUB. In the year 2009/2010 Int. Roshantha Perera became the president of the club. Under his presidency club was able to organize the annual sports festival “Intro MANIA” and the official Interact radio station “VOI” was completed successfully as annual projects. Sanath Chathuranga, Int. Pasindu Liyanage & Int. Thareendra Amarasinghe participated for the Interact leadership Training Programme. Adding to the Fame, Int. Budshana was selected to the Interact District 3220. This year Club was recognized for Its contribution towards Rotary International Polio Eradication Fund in the District Assembly. In the year 2010/2011 under the presidency of Int. SanathChathuranga the club went on keeping the good work going and the standard of the club was very high. Moreover, it was proven in the Interact District Assembly where we won most number of awards in the history of Mahanama Interact including 4 citations &a Merit award. Merit was for VOI as "The Best Club Service project for the year 2010/2011"& The Citations were for The Best Club of the years 2010/2011, "Lead Us Forward" as the "Best Innovative Project"& Int. SanathChathuranga was awarded as the Best president & Int. PasinduLiyanage was awarded as the Best Interactor for the years 2010/2011. Under the year 2011/2012 under the Presidency of Int. Pasindu Liyanage, He was awarded as the Best President.
