European Film Festival in Kandy
at Atelier Kandy

This evening (03 September) we will be closing the festival
with the screening of 'Luxembourg, Luxembourg' by Antonio Lukich from Ukraine at 6.30.p.m.

Kolya and Vasily go in search of their father after they come to know that he is dying in Luxembourg, who left them when they were children. Kolya considers him a hero, while Vasily thinks he is a scoundrel.

Screening of 'Imad's Childhood'

a documentary film by Zahavi Sanjavi

After more than two years in captivity, Yazidi Ghazala and her two small boys Imad and Idan are released into a displaced persons' camp in Kurdistan. Healing from the trauma is hard for all of them, but it seems Imad is having a particularly tough time. He is explosively aggressive and his favourite pursuits are stoning rabbits and beheading dogs. With patience and respect, Zahavi Sanjavi has closely followed Imad and his traumatized family for several years. With the help of a teacher, Imad begins to take small steps to find his way back to a normal childhood.

'Shadow Country' (135"|2020| Czech Republic-Slovakia)
this evening at 6.30p.m.
The film chronicles the events of a village on the Czech-Austrian border from the 1930s to 1950s, where genocide occurred due to fallout between German citizens and Czechs who collaborated with the N**i regime during the war.

Bruno lives in a home for the elderly and is in love with a co-resident named Duša, only to forget her after each of their encounters. When he is alone, his past resurfaces violently, causing him to want to run away, in an attempt to get back to his own home to his wife and his dog – who, sadly are no longer there.
It's love story in which fragmented memories are brought back to mind by a song.

We open European Film Festival in Kandy tomorrow
(01 September) at 6.30p.m. with the screening of
'The Big Hit' (Un triomphe) by Emmanuel Courcol
at Atelier Kandy (opposite Arpico Super Center)

Etienne, an often out of work but endearing actor, runs a theater workshop in a prison, where he brings together an unlikely troupe of prisoners to stage Samuel Beckett’s famous play 'Waiting for Godot'. When he is allowed to take the convicts on a tour outside of prison, Etienne finally has the chance to thrive. Each date is a new success and a unique relationship grows between this
ad hoc group of actors and their director. But soon comes the final performance in Paris. Will their last night together be the biggest hit of them all?
