Following the historic success of its previous editions, the Jaffna District Chess Association (JDCA) proudly presents the 4th Jaffna International Chess Championship 2026 (JICC 2026).

Over five high-intensity days, international competitors, titled players, and rising domestic talents will converge in the historic cultural heart of Northern Sri Lanka—where world-class chess meets the heritage, architecture, and renowned hospitality of Jaffna.

🏆 1. Category A – IM Norm Round Robin

For the first time, Jaffna introduces a dedicated 10-player closed Round Robin event alongside the Swiss sections.

This elite-format tournament provides ambitious titled and untitled players with a pathway to pursue FIDE International Master (IM) norms on home soil.

⚡ 2. FIDE Rated Rapid Championship

JICC 2026 expands beyond classical and blitz with the introduction of an official FIDE Rated Rapid Championship.

With all three major time controls represented, participants can experience a complete chess festival spanning:

The Jaffna District Chess Association (JDCA), in collaboration with CCIY, organized a community chess programme at the Sangiliyan Park well known as kiddu park during the Nallur Festival Book Festival.

Visitors had the opportunity to learn, play and enjoy chess, making the game accessible to the wider community.

A heartfelt appreciation to our dedicated JDCA volunteers and committee members for contributing their valuable time and support throughout the programme.
