🤖 AI for the Future of Biological Science

To empower youth and strengthen academic excellence, American Corner Jaffna organized an AI Capacity Building Program for Biological Science on 15 August 2026 at the Department of Computer Science, Faculty of Science, University of Jaffna.

👩‍🔬👨‍🔬 30+ Biological Science undergraduates explored the potential of Artificial Intelligence in biological sciences, gaining valuable insights into emerging technologies, innovation, research, and future career opportunities.

The session was facilitated by Mr. Miller Alexander Rajendran, who guided participants through the evolving role of AI in the academic and scientific landscape.

🌐 This program reflects the American Spaces goals of empowering young people, promoting digital literacy, fostering innovation, and preparing the next generation with future-ready skills.

Getting Into Graduate School: A Workshop for Sri Lankan Applicants

Are you thinking of applying to graduate school at U.S. universities? Join EducationUSA Sri Lanka at the United States-Sri Lanka Fulbright Commission (US-SLFC) and Professor Shermali Gunawardena, PhD (State University of New York at Buffalo) for a comprehensive overview of the U.S. university graduate application process, from identifying suitable universities to submitting the application and everything in between.

Professor Gunawardena is Associate Professor of Biological Sciences at University at Buffalo (UB). Previously, she served as the department's Director of Graduate Recruitment and Admissions. In this session, Professor Gunawardena will share her advice on securing strong letters of recommendation, writing effective personal statements, funding your studies, and more.

This two-part event will begin with a general information session, followed by a targeted application workshop in September with Professor Gunawardena.

Prospective U.S. university graduate applicants, educators, and career guidance counselors are encouraged to attend. Bring your questions!

Celebrating Freedom 250: Empowering Youth Through Democratic Dialogue

As part of the Freedom 250 celebration, American Corner Jaffna hosted an American Parliamentary Debate Competition.

Students from Jaffna College and Uduvil Girls' College debated the motion, "A Strong Central Government is Essential to Protect the Freedom and Unity of a Nation," promoting critical thinking, English communication, leadership, and civic engagement through respectful dialogue.

The event brought together 60 participants, including students, teachers, Youth Forum Alumni Members, and a panel of four judges.
