It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of a beloved Old Johnian, respected by both young and old.
Mr. Sivathasan passed away on 19/05/2025 in California, USA. He was the son of one of St. John’s College’s cherished teachers, the late Mr. “Kaduvul” Subramaniam.
After completing both his secondary and higher education, Mr. Sivathasan joined the Sri Lankan Civil Service. He served in several important roles, including as Deputy Director of Planning for the Northern Province. Through his work, he supported our community in countless ways, always keeping our school and its students close to his heart. He later served as an advisor to President Chandrika Kumaratunga.
During this time, he played a vital role in rebuilding the college office building after the war, with support from the Norwegian Government.
His efforts were instrumental in the post-war recovery of our school during a very difficult time.
Mr. Sivathasan also served as President of the Old Boys’ Associations in both Jaffna and Colombo. He brought many Old Johnians together and provided significant support to the school.
In addition to his public service, he was a passionate writer and journalist, contributing many articles that highlighted the issues faced by our community in Sri Lanka.
He was a true Johnian and his passing is a great loss to the global Johnian family.
