BATTLE OF THE TWO CITIES 2026 – MATCH REPORT
The much-awaited Battle of the Two Cities between Wickramabahu Central College and Anuruddha National College was played today at the Wickramabahu Central College Grounds amidst great excitement and school spirit.
Due to unfavorable ground conditions caused by the previous day's rain, the encounter was reduced to a 47-over match.
Loss of the toss saw Wickramabahu Central College sent in to bat first. Facing a tight bowling attack, the Wickramabahu lineup put together 122 runs before the final wicket fell in the 39th over, setting up the defense of their total.
In reply, Anuruddha National College reached 40 runs for the loss of 2 wickets before rain interrupted play once again. Unfortunately, the weather prevented any further action, and the match was officially abandoned.
Although the game could not reach a final result, the encounter once again showcased the true spirit of cricket, friendship, passion, and the proud legacy shared by both schools since 2001.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all players, officials, past pupils, supporters, and well-wishers who gathered to make this event memorable despite the challenging weather conditions.
