As an engineering undergraduates we have to deal with our academic works in most of the times to overcome the higher amount of work load. Anyway our students are engaged in many extracurricular activities to enjoy their undergraduate life and to get some rest from the academic stress. For that Engineering faculty Art society plays a great role to open up the talents of our undergraduates and enjoy
their undergraduate life by having a great entertainment. As the Engineering faculty Art society with the help of our student union,academic staff and Dean, Faculty of Engineering University of Ruhuna, we conduct many functions in a calendar year. Now we’ll see what are the functions carried out by us. We got the chance to express the aesthetic talents of our students to whole society by conducting the “Thambarawila” for the second time in 2014 at Karapitiya indoor stadium. Not only that in year 2015 we conducted “Kandula” classical music programme for the first time in Galle area at Richmond college Auditorium by opening that programme to whole public including school students also. That was a real entertaining programme to understand the real meaning of a song. Apart from those type of functions which show up our talents to the whole public, as Art society we are conducting many functions inside our faculty in one calendar year. As the first function of the year we are conducting “Sinhala/Tamil New Year festival” by including many types of traditional games and events. Then during “Wesak” season we are conducting “Sadhaham bathi gee” function, during Christmas season we are conducting “carol” function and not only that we are conducting “Saraswathee pooja function during that season of the year with the help of whole Engineering faculty brotherhood without any religious or racism problems. Because we are conducting every function with the help of all the students including Sinhala, Tamil, Muslim and catholic as a one unit. Then as an outdoor function we are conducting the “Padura” function by making a wonderful surrounding that remind a beautiful village. We conduct that function according to a special theme that catch the hearts of every one who join with the event. This is a wonderful event that everyone like to be participate and everyone get a chance to relax their minds by singing songs and dancing. As a Religious event we are conducting “ Pirith Deshana” in every year to take some relaxation to our minds by having a Pirith Deshana and a alms giving . Apart from having all of the above functions and events in every year we conduct a “Blood donation” programme as a social activity with the help of all the undergraduates, academic and nonacademic staff. As another social activity we are conducting seminars for O/L students in schools nearby Galle area to help them to successfully face their O/L examination
Now you have some idea about what is Art society and student Union, of engineering faculty and what kind of things that we are doing in our faculty. As Art society Promoting & Encouraging entertainment & aesthetic capabilities of students, in Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna is the main aim of us but actually we are not only trying to give some entertainment to the undergraduates but also we are trying to develop the relationships between undergraduates themselves and also with the academic staff and undergraduates. That will solve many problems that can arise unnecessarily between them. Also from every function we conduct we will get thousands of experience including every sector like how to work as a group and how to take the responsibility of a hard work etc. That will help a lot in our undergraduate life and also after we graduate those experience will help a lot in our future engineering life.
