🌊 Beyond Being Human - BBH 🌍

Recently, our dedicated team from BBH conducted an in-depth exploration of the coastal area near Galle Fort, a site renowned for its rich history and breathtaking beauty. Galle, a vibrant city, draws countless residents and tourists daily, all eager to experience its charm. Both Galle and the iconic Galle Fort are celebrated as major tourist attractions, attracting visitors from around the world who come to admire its scenic views and historical significance.

During our visit near the Galle Butterfly Bridge, we were captivated by the natural splendor of the coastline—crystal-clear waters, rugged rocks, and the tranquil sandy beaches 🏝️✨. However, our admiration was marred by a disheartening sight: the overwhelming presence of litter. Large quantities of plastic bottles, non-biodegradable polythene waste, and various debris cluttered the shoreline and the surrounding environment 🌿🚯. Plastic and polythene waste were visibly piled on the rocks and scattered across the sandy beach, ruining the scenic landscape.

What’s more alarming is how this waste is washing into the ocean, polluting the waters and threatening marine life 🐠🌊. The impact of human activities is evident — careless disposal, lack of waste management, and neglect are contributing to this environmental degradation. These issues not only tarnish the natural beauty of Galle but also jeopardize the health of our oceans and ecosystems.

As responsible citizens and stewards of the environment, it is our duty to protect and preserve this beautiful coastline 🌱💪. The natural beauty of Galle is a shared heritage that must be maintained for future generations. We need collective action—be it through community cleanups, raising awareness, or adopting eco-friendly habits—to prevent further harm and promote sustainable tourism and conservation efforts 🧹🌍.

Let’s remember: preserving nature is a collective responsibility. Every small effort counts in making our environment cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful. Together, we can ensure that Galle’s majestic coastline remains an inspiring destination for all 🌺🌎.

"Femicides often sit on a continuum of violence that can start with controlling behavior, threats, and harassment - including online."

- Sarah Hendriks
Director of UN Women's Policy Division

🌐 In today’s digital world, online spaces offer incredible opportunities for connection, learning, and empowerment. But for many young women and girls, these same spaces are becoming places of fear, harassment, and exclusion. No one should have to live in fear or feel unsafe just for using the internet. Every girl has the right to safety, respect, and freedom online. ✨💪

We, as the BBH organization, we believe that digital spaces should be safe havens where girls can thrive without fear of violence or discrimination. As we approach the 2025 theme, “UNiTE to End Digital Violence against All Women and Girls,” we call on everyone — individuals, communities, governments, and organizations — to unite and take action. 🌍

Digital violence includes harassment, threats, doxxing, cyberbullying, and other forms of abuse that target women and girls online. It silences voices, limits opportunities, and perpetuates inequality. We must work together to create safe online environments where women and girls can express themselves freely and confidently. 🚫🗣️

Over the next 16 days, let’s stand united to and to end digital violence. Every effort counts — from promoting respectful online behavior and digital literacy to advocating for stronger policies and survivor support. Together, we can build a future where online spaces are safe, inclusive, and empowering for all women and girls. 💜🌟

Join us in this movement! Spread awareness, challenge harmful behaviors, and advocate for digital rights. Let’s make sure online spaces are places of opportunity, not fear. Because when we to end digital violence, we empower women and girls everywhere to live, learn, and grow without fear. 🌍💖

Together, from Sri Lanka and around the world, we can make a difference. Every girl deserves a safe, respectful, and inclusive online environment. Let’s stand in solidarity! ✊🌸

🚨 Special Weather Warning! 📣

At this moment, the adverse weather conditions across the country are expected to worsen, according to the Disaster Management Center (DMC) and the International Meteorological Department. Due to the current turbulence in Bengal Bay, the coming hours are critically important.

BBH Organization would like to remind you of this.

🛑 Do NOT go near floodwaters: Avoid attempting to view or cross flooded areas. Your life is more valuable than any scenic view.

🛑 Be cautious while driving: Heavy rainfall can make roads slippery. Reduce your speed. If visibility is poor, turn on your headlights and drive carefully.

🛑 Consider vulnerable animals: Do not confine or tie up your pets (dogs, cats, cattle). In case of sudden floods, give them a chance to survive.

🛑 Beware of falling trees: Strong winds may cause trees and branches to fall. Avoid parking or stopping under large trees.

🛑 Do not swim in floodwaters: Avoid wells, ditches, and rivers that are overflowing or have no water.

🛑 Be alert for landslides: In coastal areas, if you notice signs of mountain landslides, evacuate immediately.

🛑 Exercise caution around electrical wires: Stay away from fallen or hanging electrical cables.

🎒 Be prepared: If you are in a low-lying area, keep a small bag ready with essential medicines, documents, and important items for quick evacuation during emergencies.

Let’s protect our lives and inform others. In any emergency, contact your nearest police station or the following numbers:

📞 117 - Disaster Management Center
📞 119 - Police Emergency Hotline

Everyone, stay safe and cautious.

Nearly half of the world's women and girls—1.8 billion—have no legal protection from digital violence. 🌍

As cyberstalking, gendered disinformation, and AI-driven deepfakes escalate—increasing the risks women and girls face online—laws have failed to keep pace.

This is unacceptable.

Join Us in the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence!

From November 25th to December 10th , we come together as a global community to raise awareness, challenge harmful norms, and stand in solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence. This period is dedicated to reflecting on the profound impact of violence rooted in gender inequality and taking concrete actions to create a safer, more just society for everyone.

Why 16 Days?

The 16 Days of Activism is an international campaign that highlights the urgent need to end violence against women and girls, but its message extends to all genders and communities affected by gender-based violence (GBV). It’s a time to remember the victims, honor their courage, and commit to preventing future violence. It’s also an opportunity to educate, advocate, and inspire change at personal, community, and societal levels.

- Educate Others
Engage in conversations at home, in schools, and workplaces to promote gender equality and respectful relationships.

Ending gender-based violence requires collective effort. Every small step counts. Whether it’s speaking out against harmful language, supporting a friend, or volunteering with local organizations, your actions contribute to a larger movement for change.

• Let’s Make a Difference Together
This campaign is about more than just awareness – it’s about action. Every voice raised, every story shared, and every act of kindness contributes to dismantling the roots of gender violence. Together, we can create a future where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

Beyond Being Human - BBH Proudly Partners with Next Gen SL to Launch an Exciting Series of Maritime Law Awareness Programs Across District 08! 🌍⚓

At BBH, we believe that knowledge is the foundation of empowered communities. That’s why we are thrilled to announce our partnership with Next Gen SL to bring you an inspiring series of Maritime Law awareness programs designed specifically for the vibrant youth and communities of District 08. This initiative aims to shed light on crucial maritime rights, safety measures, and legal responsibilities that are often overlooked but are vital for sustainable development and community well-being.

Across the beautiful coastlines and bustling ports from Galle to Jaffna, we are committed to creating a ripple effect of awareness that will reach fishermen, traders, students, and local residents alike. Our goal is to educate and inform the younger generation, aged 16 to 35, who are the future custodians of our maritime resources, about the legal frameworks that protect their livelihoods and ensure the safety of our seas.

This comprehensive program will include interactive workshops and activities in key districts such as Galle, Hambantota, Batticaloa, Ampara, Nuwara Eliya, Matale, Jaffna, and Mannar. Each session is designed to be engaging and informative, emphasizing the importance of understanding maritime laws, safety protocols, and sustainable practices that can make a real difference in their daily lives.

Why is this important? Because a well-informed community is a resilient community. When fishermen understand their legal rights, they can better advocate for fair treatment and access to resources. Traders and business owners will learn about regulations that can help them operate more efficiently and responsibly. Young students and local residents will gain insights into the legal responsibilities that come with maritime activities, fostering a culture of safety and sustainability.

We believe that empowering youth with knowledge about maritime laws will inspire responsible behavior and promote a culture of safety at sea. It’s about building a community that respects the environment, values safety, and understands its legal rights and obligations. By doing so, we aim to contribute to the development of a responsible, well-informed maritime community that can face future challenges with confidence.

We invite all students, community leaders, youth groups, and concerned citizens to join us on this exciting journey. Your participation can make a significant impact—whether by spreading awareness, sharing your experiences, or simply being part of these educational programs. Together, we can create a safer, more knowledgeable maritime environment for generations to come.

Stay tuned for upcoming events, workshops, and seminars in your district. We will be sharing details soon! Let’s set sail towards knowledge, progress, and sustainable development. Because when we come together to learn and grow, there’s no limit to what we can achieve.

Join us in making a difference—because beyond being human, we are responsible stewards of our seas. 🌊✨
