The Ambassador for Religious Freedom engages in advocacy for the freedom of religion or belief, monitors the religious liberty situation in persecuted contexts and trains churches in restricted countries and mobilises prayer for the persecuted. The Ambassador for Religious Freedom of the World Evangelical Alliance (WEA) is a representative voice for persecuted Christians and an advocate for global
religious freedom. The Ambassador speaks up for the rights of persecuted Christians, trains church leaders to withstand the pressures of persecution and supports vulnerable communities needing assistance. Under its mandate to educate, the Ambassador carries out national and regional level training for church leaders on topics such as advocacy, the freedom of religion or belief (FoRB), international protections for FoRB and the biblical theology of persecution. To shed light on challenges to religious freedom, the Ambassador advises and supports the WEA’s advocacy efforts with governments and international institutions such as the UN, EU, and the US Department of State. Moreover, as a representative voice, the Ambassador speaks at international events and forums to draw global attention to issues of religious persecution. Further, the Ambassador also engages with persecution-related issues at the ground level and supports victims and strengthens persecuted communities by mobilizing prayer, including the International Day of Prayer for the Persecuted Church (IDOP) and facilitates practical assistance in times of persecution. This includes but is not limited to legal aid, medical assistance, and other emergency support.
