Vision: To be the best YMCA in Sri Lanka
Mission: To achieve our vision by continuously working towards the betterment of the community through youth empowerment
History of YMCA Dehiwala:
Similar to the world YMCA movement started by George Williams in 1844, the YMCA Dehiwala was started with a Bible Study group at the Kargampitiya Methodist School in Dehiwela. The Y Dehiwala was officially ina
ugurated in 1912. The first meeting was held at Christ Church School Dehiwela where Rs 1,000/- was raised as an initial fund. In 1915 the Y Dehiwala affiliated with Y Colombo as one of its branches. From being housed in rented premises, the Y Dehiwala came to its present location at “Valencia†on Fairline road in 1922. Subsequently, the Y Dehiwela became autonomous and loosened its bonds with the Y Colombo. The Y Dehiwela successfully works with all communities and religions, especially with the underprivileged fisher-folk of Dehiwela. Through its youth programs, outreach programs, sporting activities, and other community programs, Y Dehiwela has continuously contributed to the societal upliftment of Dehiwala for 100 years and remains an integral part of the community. During the trying times in Sri Lankan history such as communal riots, insurrections, and the 30-year civil war, the Y Dehiwala was a pillar of communal strength by magnanimously supporting the community, and continues to do so in the present day
