LEADS Sri Lanka leads.lk/rewrite-my-story/ LEADS is a national NGO in Sri Lanka and has been in operation for more than 30 years. Presently we work in 13 districts.

LEADS is a national non-profit organisation operating in Sri Lanka, involved in crisis response, community development & child protection.We are dedicated to create safer spaces & brighter futures for the children of Sri Lanka. We focus on three main sections:

• Crisis

• Children

• Community

We work with over 20 partners from across the globe and we work directly with the judiciary and Government of Sri Lanka to respond to the needs of children and community. ESCAPE which is a division of LEADS deals directly with children specifically the prevention and therapy of child abuse. Through ESCAPE we hope to create awareness and to help those have already been exposed to such atrocities. ESCAPE also operates through a safe house which takes care of the child after the trauma. In addition to sexual abuse ESCAPE deals with children who are neglected and children who have been affected by the war. Our work also includes community transformation, child-centred community development, post-conflict rehabilitation, Participatory Social Development, Disaster Risk Reduction, and Drug Rehabilitation. Namely, Hambantota, Jaffna, Kilinochchi, Mullaitivu, Trincomalee, Matara, Ampara, Mannar, Kandy, Kurunegala, Ratnapura, Badulla, and Colombo.

Every child deserves a justice system that protects their rights, recognises their unique vulnerabilities and prioritises their best interests. To support this vision, LEADS facilitated a Juvenile Justice Workshop for members of the Bar Association of Sri Lanka on 04th October 2026 at Mirage Hotel, Colombo, bringing together legal practitioners to strengthen their knowledge and skills in child-centred justice.

The workshop covered key topics including Children in Conflict with the Law: Legal Framework and Juvenile Justice Procedures, Child Witnesses in Court Proceedings: Evidence, Examination Techniques, and Safeguarding Measures, and Cross-Examination Advocacy.

As part of our commitment to strengthening child protection systems and promoting access to justice, LEADS continues to support legal professionals in adopting rights-based and child-sensitive approaches to legal practice. This workshop marks Phase II of a nationwide training series, building on successful programmes conducted in the Northern, Central, and Uva Provinces. The next workshop will take place in Batticaloa as we continue working towards a justice system that safeguards the rights, dignity, and best interests of every child.
