ENHANCING THE CAPACITY OF MUSLIM AID STAFF TOWARDS STRENGTHENING LOCALISED EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS AND RESILIENCE

The training workshop on Enhancing Muslim Aid Sri Lanka’s Preparedness and Localised Emergency Response Capacity successfully brought together participants for collaborative learning, knowledge sharing, and in-depth discussions aimed at strengthening humanitarian preparedness and effective emergency response mechanisms in Sri Lanka.

This five-day workshop was organised by Muslim Aid Sri Lanka in collaboration with Muslim Aid Headquarters (United Kingdom), emphasising the importance of localisation, community engagement, coordination, and strengthening resilient response systems to better support vulnerable communities during emergencies.

We were honoured to welcome the Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Saeed Khan, and Financial Controller, Mr. Shakeel, of Penny Appeal Australia for a productive meeting with officials of Muslim Aid Sri Lanka to discuss ongoing project activities and future collaboration opportunities.

The discussion focused on strengthening humanitarian and development initiatives aimed at supporting vulnerable families and communities across Sri Lanka.

Fruit plant seedlings were distributed among agricultural beneficiaries in the Manthai West and Musali DS Divisions to support sustainable income generation during off-season periods.

Several varieties of fruit plants were provided in sufficient quantities to establish 1/4 acre and 1/2 acre home gardens, helping farming families strengthen their livelihoods through agriculture-based resilience and environmentally friendly farming practices.

This initiative contributes towards improving household income, food security, and long-term sustainability within vulnerable farming communities.

Empowering women through sustainable handloom industry

The 9th Expansion Units Training Program was successfully launched at Naduoothu, Kinniya, with 62 trainees, while the 10th Expansion Units Training Program commenced at Jinnah Nagar, Mutur, with the participation of 53 trainees across the Trincomalee District.

These four-month handloom industry training program is focused on strengthening women’s empowerment by enhancing vocational skills, creating sustainable livelihood opportunities, and supporting long-term economic resilience within local communities.

Strengthening sustainable Fishing Livelihoods

Traditional Fishing Rafts (Theppam) were provided to freshwater fishermen in Periyamadu Village under the Manthai West DS Division in Mannar District to support and improve inland fishing livelihoods.

Through this initiative, Muslim Aid Sri Lanka aims to enhance income-generating opportunities, strengthen the resilience of fishing families, and promote the sustainable development of local fishing communities.

The Sri Lanka - Kuwait Joint Relief Forum proudly hosted a welcome reception in honour of H.E. Saleh Mubarak Al-Sarawi, the newly appointed Ambassador of the State of Kuwait to Sri Lanka.

The event brought together representatives of humanitarian and relief organizations, strengthening the long-standing relationship between Sri Lanka and Kuwait through collaboration, partnership, and humanitarian engagement.

Discussions highlighted the importance of continued cooperation in relief, development, and community support initiatives that benefit vulnerable communities across Sri Lanka. The Forum also reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing ties between Sri Lankan and Kuwaiti charitable and humanitarian organizations.
