Our Story

Yala Fund was formed in 2005 by Jon Ashworth, a former Times journalist, with his friends and fellow trustees Bev and John Thompson and Suzy Payne. It was set up to help Tsunami survivors in Sri Lanka. Once the Tsunami relief work was finished, Yala widened out to help schools, orphanages, hospitals and poor families in the poor rural districts around Yala National Park.
